Go back in time, when you came to the first page. There it says "Mushroom Information". There is tons of information that you are seeking in basic cultivation. Also, try the FAQ. If not, someone *may* give you an answer.

you have to PC(Presure cook) it for an hour at 15 psi there are tek out there to sterilize by boiling and microwave but you still can get cotams if you ask me the best way is just PC now i know they cost alot of money but you can look around and buy a 2nd hand presure cooker they will save you alot of time and money in the long run.example if you use a microwave to sterilize you substarte 12 jars and you get 80% you just lost alot of money on the substarte and the money you could have got from the mushrooms and now you have to do it all over again.I'm not sure about the microwave tek that was just an example

Kramer is right. My cocksucking friend has boiled before a few times with success. 1.5 hours. That's it. Keep the lid on.

AFOAF boils for 90minutes in a roasting pan water up to 1" below the lids, foil over the lid before screwing cap on, very succesful
against contams so far.

60 to 90 minutes depending on your available time, if you have 90, why not do 90 minutes?

i always do an hour. i have to refill water halfway through cuz most of it boils off. carefull about putting the jars through too much of a temp change cuz they will crack and break.

A slow boil is the same temp as a violent boil. Replacing water, as you say, could be problematic. I'd suggest turning your fire down.

BTW, I put cool water in the pot with the jars, bring to boil, keep there an hour, then let it all cool w/o disturbing the pot. Never had a contam out of the pot.

I'm new at this to. I boiled 4 PF 1/2 pint jars for 70 minutes and so far Ive had no contams. I inoculated on 7/18/03 and today, two of my jars are comletely covered on the outside. They say that Brown Rice in flour form is much easier to sterilize than whole grains because contams can sometimes be inside the grains and not be reached by the steam. I use a good pot with a pretty tight fitting lid. A few times throughout the boiling process, I hold the lid down tight for like 5 minutes. I think this might help the steam pressure to build up a little. Also, first I heat the jars at a pretty high boil for about 20 minutes, then low for 30 minutes then high again for the remainder of the boiling. Worked for me!

Wicish, there is a problem with grains as you mentioned but if you soak for a period ( normally recommended 12 to 24 hours ) you can eliminate most of the problems.

Yea Ive heard about that too. That induces the contams to germinate and then the steam can rid them much easier, right.
