To all the knowledgeable cigarette smokers of the shroomery!
    #17509290 -

Can someone point me in the right direction to find a list or ranking of major United States cigarette brands and the additives (or amount of additive) and their tar content(or whatever else is used to measure the damaging effect/addictiveness of cigarettes).

I know cigarettes are terrible for your health(so save the spiel),but I am just curious to know what cigarettes are worse or better for you.

Do most brands contain freebase nicotine? And how additive-less are Philip Morris's American Spirits? Can you tell that other brands are stronger due to the freebase nicotine?

Do yourself a favor and quit while you are ahead.  You can thank me later.  I quit almost five years ago and only miss smoking like every day.  Get yourself a script for Chantix and you will be free of the nicotine addiction.

This is more curiosity and not really for me personally. Cigarettes don't particularly float my boat unless I am intoxicated on a more worth while substance.
I guess it's kind of stupid because no matter what cigarette you smoke it is terrible for you, so finding a "healthier" cigarette doesn't make much sense. I also imagine big-cigarette companies aren't very keen on giving out any of this information.

there's no such animal as what you're looking for, there's a few lists of
additives floating around and many of the so called additives are actually
chemicals produced by combustion of the actual additives there could be any
number of things added to them whether one thing like menthol or hundreds

As far as cigarettes are concerned I think American Spirits have the least amount of additives.

i went to PR a few months back for a reggae show and brought 2 packs of american spirits just in case they didnt sell them down there. a dude came up to me and said "sheet mhang! you got those lettuce cigs!?!?!". definitely a language barrier because we figured out he meant "organic" cigs. had a great laugh with dude and we smoked salads together

My way of putting it, the additives feel good and cigarettes are gonna fuck you over some way no matter how hard you try to avoid cancer.  They feel good at first until your head rush goes away.  American spirits are supposed to be better for you since they dont have as many additives than other brands but even though they have a high nicotine content I don't like them as much that's all I know.

Just don't try to find a "healthy" cigarette cuz you won't find one just find one worth smoking

Are those additives standard? Like are the additives in Camels pretty much the same as those in Marlboros?

Note the disclaimer.

Quote:
What happens when I smoke a cigarette?

Research indicates that lead-210 and polonium-210 are present in tobacco smoke as it passes into the lung. The concentration of lead-210 and polonium-210 in tobacco leaf is relatively low, however, this low concentration can accumulate into very high concentrations in the lungs of smokers.

As it passes into the lungs, the smoke impacts the branches of the lung passages, called bronchioles, where the branches split. Tar from tobacco smoke builds up there, and traps lead-210 and polonium-210 against the sensitive tissues of the bronchioles. Studies show filters on ordinary commercial cigarette remove only a modest amount of radioactivity from the smoke inhaled into the lungs of smokers. Most of what is deposited is lead-210, but polonium-210 (whose half life is about 138 days) quickly grows in as the lead-210 (half life = 22.3 years) decays and becomes the dominant radionuclide. Over time, the concentration of polonium-210 directly on tissues of the bronchioles grows very high, and intense localized radiation doses can occur at the bronchioles.

Those aren't additives, they are in all tobacco leaf.

Maybe... I smoke organic American spirits, and I have a very easy time quitting smoking for a day or two at a time, but I always get lazy again and smoke because I enjoy it... I don't smoke that much at all... a pack can last me weeks at a time if I am frugal...

BUT...
I'm not hooked on additives, just the ritual and habbit of hand to mouth nicotine.

People who got hooked on mainstream cigs say that trying to switch to organic natural tobacco doesn't work... that's because they are on the additives.

It's still really bad... though.. speaking of, gonna go take a puff or two off of one now !

I wonder why tobacco would have lead and polonium in it while other edible plants like tomatos don't. I mean, if it's grown in good soil, why would it accumulate lead and polonium when other plants don't?

pourous leaves and surface area, jet fuel trails etc.. p;us a tomato is a fruit, with a protective skin... tobacco leaves are exposed to the elements... I bet the seeds from the plant don't contain those things.

Some time it  falls in the rain tobacco is the leaves tomatos and whatever is the actual fruit If you were to smoke a bunch of tomato leaves you would probably get close to the same exposure. Why do you think we have pcb warnings on fish from ponds rivers and lakes that have never seen any kind of factory?

Just get an e-cig if you don't want to quit but still like to smoke. I'm sure ghost and prop can vouch for how awesome they apparently are.

That's not how lead and polonium work though. It doesn't matter if you smoke them or eat them, they're the same either way.

I doubt that they are absorbed from the leaves. Virtually everything that ends up in plants is absorbed from the ground. Now, I could believe ground contamination, but that doesn't explain why tobacco would be contaminated, but tomatos wouldn't. Smoking or eating lead or polonium has the same results, and given the amount of tomatos that people eat we should all be getting 100x more polonium and lead from tomatos than from tobacco.
