but mahrishi, i'm interested to see hwo you would respond to the following hypothesis:

lets say for arguements sake, that one never intended to have a child. they were never intending to bring a child into this world, and so on this basis, the child was never going to be born anyway. does this make any difference to your views on abortion?
I would suggest said individuals be sterilized, abstain, or use redundant birthcontrol methods, all of which are healthier physically as well as psychologically on a human

what about the harvesting of stemcells and embryo's from fertile females? yes these represent a possible human, but when they were never intended to be conceived, there is no loss.
I do not agree with such research, but do not argue against it as I consider myself a scientist.  It is your body, do with it as you see fit, these are my opinions.  I do not feel there should be in place, ANY law that prevents personal liberty as long as noone else is harmed in your actions.  I can not know if that "possible human" feels, or is experiencing life, or at what point this occurs.  So I PERSONALLY choose to er on the side of compassion.  Also advise others to do the same, I do not wish to push my beliefs on others, only offer what I know from experience and my philosophy.  It is touchy, indeed, at best.  I just know for a fact I have had this discussion irl with two separate near and dear female friends.  They both chose adoption, both children were taken home from the hospital to upper middle class families who had gone through extensive background checks and parenting classes.  Also both are open adoptions meaning if they choose they may communicate with the child at a later date and both routinely communicate with adoptive parents and receive pictures if requested.  Life is precious

interested to hear what you think about this.

First of all, tell your girl that it's ultimately up to her and you will stand by and support her all the way through. But also tell your girl the truth about how you feel and see what she has to say. Good luck man.

As previously mentioned I simply interjected my humble opinion, I wish for everyone to think freely and treat their bodies as they choose.
I have not been kind to my body, and that is my choice, I own it.
Conversation and communication is indeed the key here.
I wish you BOTH all the best

By the sounds of our talks she doesnt want to keep it. We cant afford a baby..but I feel like every reason we cone up with to justify an abortion just doesnt outweigh the value of life. Im very conflicted....this blows

How about you BOTH read this:
A worried woman went to her gynecologist and said:

'Doctor, I have a serious problem and desperately need your help! My baby is not even 1 year old and I'm pregnant again. I don't want kids so close together.'

So the doctor said: 'Ok and what do you want me to do?'

She said: 'I want you to end my pregnancy, and I'm counting on your help with this.'

The doctor thought for a little, and after some silence he said to the lady: 'I think I have a better solution for your problem. It's less dangerous for you too.'

She smiled, thinking that the doctor was going to accept her request.

Then he continued: 'You see, in order for you not to have to take care of 2 babies at the same time, let's kill the one in your arms. This way, you could rest some before the other one is born. If we're going to kill one of them, it doesn't matter which one it is. There would be no risk for your body if you chose the one in your arms.'

The lady was horrified and said: 'No doctor! How terrible! It's a crime to kill a child!'

'I agree', the doctor replied. 'But you seemed to be OK with it, so I thought maybe that was the best solution.'

The doctor smiled, realizing that he had made his point.

He convinced the mom that there is no difference in killing a child that's already been born and one that's still in the womb. The crime is the same!

That was one of the most illogical arguments I've ever read.  :congrats:

I see what your saying but I do not agree. If people do not want a child but have a slip up, as these things do happen then they should carry the morning after pill for such a thing. Then they won't have to worry and won't have to kill an unborn child. And no, I think abortion of any kind at any time during a pregnancy is wrong. But that's just me. I do believe in a woman's right to choose and have friends who have had an abortion and they still regret it to this day. It tore one of em up pretty bad. But I know she thought she was doing the right thing because they didn't have the means to be having nor taking care of a child at the time.
I think they should keep the baby, it's an especially hard subject for someone like me who has been trying for 2 yrs to have another child but am not able to. It pisses me off to see others who are perfectly healthy and able, get pregnant and just throw the baby away like trash. That IS what they do ya know....

i hear you. and that's cool. i don't think it's a decision anyone savors making. i know women who have had abortions and don't regret doing so at all. i agree it's ultimately up to the potential parents. i am, however, a bit conflicted on the girl having the final word on the issue. i suppose that would depend on what her expectations of the father are. I'm not in favor of forcing anyone to have one if they don't want one in any case. and yeah, i know there's adoption, but it's not a decision i would personally make if i didn't want a child. that's just where i'm at with it right now.

I just hope you guy think about it good and hard before making any major life choice like that.
I also don't think the final say should be the woman's only, my brother in law's ex wife had an abortion without telling him until after she had done it. He would have chosen to keep it.

But yea if your just having the normal worry's doubts and concerns about becoming a parent and trying to raise a little one those will disappear once you look at your son/daughter for the first time. Believe me I know from exp. My husband and I were actually trying, we waited 6 yrs to try, and when we found out we finally were preggo we were happy but scared and having second thoughts also. I think it happens to everyone unexpected pregancy or planned. Good Luck though, and I hope you both come to a mutual decision that is what you both want :sun:

This kind of situation shouldn't be a laughing matter :mad2: (some people here have given asshole responses). Anyway, OP it's up to you whether or not you want to keep the baby. I'm very much against abortion but if you think it's the best option then go for it

More rhetoric, USA has a surplus of orphans. From what I hear about the foster system its pretty shitty. Get your facts straight

This country is "in the position its in" because of the generations preceeding the current generation of 'millenia kids', your generation for instance. Right now you're just spreading hate and using rhetoric for the purpose

So your saying an unborn baby would not feel pain? Does not have a heartbeat or brain functions? They also respond when things are placed on the stomach or to hearing the mothers voice all while still in the womb. They just have not been born yet. killing a child is killing a child no matter what.

That's what I'm saying, I felt nothing in the womb and no one I've ever met or heard of claims to have felt anything in the womb. A fertilized egg does not have feelings

* I agree with the people here saying that this is not a laughing matter. All the hate and anger of anti-abortionists is justified by adolescent remarks like "abort that shit"

i'm at a little different place in my life than most my age. i had to start over from scratch due to a divorce in 2010. i'm a full time student who also works at least 30 hours a week. my career of a draftsman for 11 years dried up in 08 when the shit hit the fan. i live off of student loans and what little i make at the job i'm working now. in no way should i add a child to what i have going on right now. but i use protection and am careful. i wouldn't say i sleep around either.

Well I don't see any reason anyone who is willing to have sex knowing what the outcome could always be, no matter the type of birth conrtol used, then they shouldbe able to man the fuck up and take care of their child. That  child didn't ask for it's parents to be so damn immature about things, if your old enough to fuck then you should be mature enough to do the right thing. If not, then you should not be having sex.

and op, me and my ex had to have one last year. accidents happen. she wouldnt go on birth control becuase they make her a bitch and she swore them off years ago and condoms break.

its not like an abortion is easy decision but its not an evil one.
they is an experimental birth control from men in india that should be legal in the us. it just an injection in the balls that make sperm setril and can be reversed.

but seeing as how something like that in america would = rampet std's and no unplaned pregninces should the birth rate would cut in half. also would put trojan and durex outa biz so it prob wouldnt ever be legal here.

if yall do decide to go the abortion route then try to get the pill, that way u can be there with her and do it at home. its like a forced miscarrge and way safer for her and better emotionally for her if you can be there and hold her n whatnot. thats what we did. made a difficult situation a little easier.

I am going to disagree with you on the "murder" point. A group of cells that have not yet formed a sex, brain or any cognitive thoughts is just a group of cells. If you catch it within the first 2-3 weeks. I look at it from a scientific point of view and without any feeling. I see it as a business decision that would benefit them financially.

Facts are that this world evolves around money and when you do not have the funds, it makes it very hard to survive/live,especially with the burden of a child. I am grateful I made the decision I made with the women I made the decision with (all three times).

The guilt your friend is feeling over her abortion may be due to the pressure of negative things she is reading/listening to/or people telling her she should regret it. I know this is a very hot button issue filled with passionate people on both sides. The OP stated that he and his girl can not afford it and their first reaction was to consider abortion. It is much safer these days and seems to be the best decision for them.

I know you are aware that sometimes a women's body tries to kill the invading cells as if they are an infection that is trying to harm the body. It can wreak havoc on some women.

I also know that for people that just can not/will not even consider abortion as a solution there is no winning this argument. The ones against it will NEVER concede and say it might be better. The things you listed as the only good reasons for an abortion are the same things right wing (or left wing) religious nuts say.

Also why do you think the trisomy 21 test was invented? I feel it is to protect people/society from the burden of special needs people. This is a digression and a whole other can of worms though.

If a person lets their emotions rule rational/critical thinking/decisions, it can turn out badly.
