How long can spore prints last?

Ive had this one print i bought online sitting in my cd holder for about a year now and i just used it like 6 days ago to inncolate 12 jars and it actually worked

Anyone here had any really long lasting spore prints?
are they spose to last for a year?

they will last longer than you will remember were you put them!!

years and years!!!! and more years... if kept dry and clean!

Syringes should be used within a month or two, but have been known to last 6 months or more. the reason for using them soon is that spore prints can contain things other than mushroom spores due to the the fact that mushrooms do not grow in perfectly sterile conditions, and anything you do to destroy bacteria or other spores may harm the mushroom spores. the idea is that you have young vital mushroom spores able to out compete any other little bugs that may be in that syringe. Syringes last longer when kept in a sterile plastic bag in the refridgerator. As for spore prints, if kept cool and dry they can stay vital for a year or two with no problems. And lastly cultures take more care and better equipment to maintain than a newbie even needs to think about. start with the basics. baby steps before leaps.

I have seen PF syringes work beautifully 3 years after being purchased, stored in a dirty card board box in a garage.

I'm about to get back into growing, just bought 4 18 gallon rubbermaid containers at walmart a week ago. I have prints that ange between 11/2 - 2 1/2 years old now, but they'll most likely wok fine. God knows how sterile, though.

Does anyone know if there has been any micro-gravity mushrooms experiments, anything on the ISS? micro-gravity mushrooms must be cool, right? :wink:

I searched and all I could find was cream of mushroom soup, and plans to experiment with "Mushroom growth on residual biomass" for waste management. Any mycologists out there looking for a job with NASA?
