Last time I tripped at a festival was with LSD.  Infected Mushroom was playing.  I was standing far back and to the side.  What I saw was an almost entirely spontaneous amalgam of temporarily differentiated varieties of matter, writhing and wrangling around like skeletons in a cauldron, completely entangled and entwined with temporarily differentiated varieties of loosely organized energy.  Twisted in this mess of tangled energy were hundreds of filaments of an especially disorganized kind of energy called consciousness, which was sufficiently vibrant to provide the basis for as well as drive the whole thing, but far too dim to manage it in a way that accomplished anything more than a burgeoning cacophony of bones, blood, bodies, and bass.  It was a bulging, boiling a mass of ignorance, suffering and death, constantly falling apart, peppered with thousands of microscopic instances of pleasure and bliss.

And none of that was even close to as horrifying as the sensation that what I was witnessing was more real, that it was the result of a veil being lifted from my awareness, and not a distortion being applied to it.

Needless to say that was the last time I took LSD at a music festival.

Infected Mushrooms and similar (Shpongle) makes me

Its something wannabe psychedelic over it, same with colorful rastaheads attending these sad festivals trying to carry on the psychedelic culture (LSD mainstream people started steering the sinking ship back in the 60's) without really having a clue what its about, IMO. Psychedelic commercialism/consumerism/capitalism is what i can best describe it as.

Personally I think once we get over the idea that things "need" to change or that things "should" or "may" change then we lighten up a whole lot.  I think once you realize this, YOU WILL DIE NO MATTER WHAT,  you realize that trying to fix life or the world was the real problem.  Because our survival needs are basically met we have too much fucking time on our hands.  Best to find ways to waste that time in something at least semi enjoyable. Yeah and I got 15% off!

Infinity Kappa 8s circa 1986 got for $500 but had to drive back and forth to Bay Area and have woofers refoamed but well worth it.  They were always my dream speakers and nice to finally start getting the most of them.

Based on the general outlook for heroin junkies, it sure is. Thought that made sense to most?

Of course, depressed/confused people seeing little to no light exist aswell such as yourself. Maybe OP has been like this since he can remember but the point was that heroin junkies most often see "a shitty end".

Why? Show me example of intellectual tunes/vibes performed by Shpongle (its basically a mess of "advanced" instruments put together, to create just that, a mess, because that is what psychedelics are to your average joe) and before you bring up "taste", some people prefer to read soap operas - others read mathematics. I dont see much taste in this really. Some prefer to watch TV, others prefer to talk about this on philosophy forums, is this really a preference when you look around you?

Auto-Summary
The author expresses deep dissatisfaction with their life and the modern consumerist culture, feeling marginalized and unimportant. They believe that constant consumption is destroying the environment and that people are more concerned with material possessions than genuine human connections. The author criticizes western culture as arrogant and destructive, advocating for a more meaningful, self-reflective lifestyle. They feel alienated and disconnected from their friends, family, and society, and believe that the current cultural mindset is detrimental to both individuals and the planet.

Cognitive_Shift said:
I don't have anything positive in my life.  I go to work for some shit job, i'm told by my co-workers i should go out and buy the latest thing i don't really need... I'm supposed to go out and consume MORE and and work to consume MORE... when in reality all of this consuming is destroying the very fabric we care for.  We need to be consuming LESS.

I don't think there is hope for MY future.  I might matter to my friends and family, but do they REALLY care about me???  Prolly not.  They care about me because of things i provide them emotionally and physically.  No one even stops to think i am a human, i'm a complex biochemical machine.  A marvel of nature... now im marginalized as just a name and picture on facebook.  I'm marginalized by my government as just a social security number in a computer.  That my life experiences are marginal, and the only life experiences that have value surround materialism.

I'm simply in a constant state of suffering with intervals of false happiness perpetuated by this idea that i will be happy if i keep consuming all this shit i don't actually need.  What i need is a loving relationship with family and friends.  People who care about me because of me... the same way i care about people because of who they are,  Fellow man.

I find western culture to be a bunch of arrogant assholes who claim they are so smart and innovative, yet destroy our home (nature) so they can have a bunch of toys they play with for a couple months and throw away, and ends up god knows where.  Maybe washed up on the shores of far away beaches so we can turn a blind eye to the problem at hand.  That our western culture is a cancer on not only humanity but to the entire world ecosystem.

I just wish people could take time away from their mindless 9-5 jobs and actually do something meaningful with their lives.  Explore questions for them selves instead of relying on other people to know it for them.  The more technology increases and people can do what they want instantly... the more i realize the true nature of my "friends" and "family."  Deep down they really don't give a shit about me, i'm just there to keep them company.  These are just my family and friends... let alone the general public, i'm just a consumer to possibly something to make money from to them.  Nothing more.  It's pathetic... and everyone is sitting by and watching it like "everything is okay."  Well everything is not okay.  We are selfish pieces of shit and nothing to be proud of.  There is this cultural notion of self congratulation that we can do this and do that... but we can't even do the most basic human desires... To actually care about people because they are apart of your community, and whats better for community is better for you.  But in this competitive capitalistic society where everyone is a competitor or a potential business partner, we no longer become what we are.  Gregarious primates sharing a life experience based on this giant mystery of the very nature of our biological being and the life around us.

We figure that fucking everything else over and not exercise, become obese, diabetes and heart disease with the most important part of the day as watching some television show that fills our minds with big steamy piles of shit... and IT'S OKAY!

It boggles my mind people don't even think twice about what they do, and figure "it's okay, it will all work out in the end."  Well guess what the end looks pretty fucking shitty... and it's too late to do anything about it.

reading this latest post I am more feeling you. I feel exactly the same. DE fukin pressed. My feeling is feeling like alienated, but also feeling part of the groups of people under attack by mindsets which seem totally cut off from nature in every way.

The way I have gone to try and dig whats going on--as also a form of self-healing (so i dont go completely fukin insane) is looking for the roots of why this is. Why this world we're born into is like it is. And I started looking at myths, because myths are what people follow and whats gets drilled into you from being little, and THE myths that have cut os off from feeling a deep belonging in nature and with our bodies and senses have been traditional religions and scientific materialism

it is GOOD you DO feel depressed because this means you can FEEL what is going on and dont pretend. You know things are fucked up and rightly so are depressed. You can make an analogy with a relationship. Say your in a relationship and it has become destructive. You can pretend it isn't, or you can feel depressed, realize it is due to the relationship and then do something about it. The pain we feel is the natural reaction to a cause OF pain.
But in THIS culture the pain we feel because we feel oppressed is blamed on us. WE are said to be 'mentally ill' and should get 'treatment' or stop moaning etc.

But getting so-called trweatment in the way of suppressing drugs, and/or suppressing how we feel ourselves STOPS us from acting on the depression. IE>, like in a relationship where you have to face whats up so it is withour relationship with this cultural oppression. What are you, me, going to do about it. What can be done?

discogs?  what's that all about never heard of it.

well it's good imo vinyl really does sound better than CDs for the most part.  There are exceptions of course and if you really like the dead silent background along with a compressed unnatural "digitally remastered" sound then go for it.  I have compared a few old albums with new CDs and maybe King Crimson in the court of did pretty good justice on the remaster plus that CD being an "album" in design is super cool.

The sounds that Shpongle produce closely mimic the mental sounds that I often hear when tripping on LSD Shrooms or Salvia.

What you put up imo has little to do with the psychedelic experience imo but if you prefer TV then I'm not going to dis you for it.

Hey Cog, good to see ya still posting 'round these parts!  As far as the OP goes, you bring up a lot of topics but I'll just address the one about mankind's self-serving nature: I think many people do act selfishly, because this is a beneficial evolutionary strategy for the individual's genes, but many people also act altruistically (like a mother sacrificing herself for her children) because this is a beneficial evolutionary strategy for the species' genes as a whole.

More importantly though, neither of these strategies are inherently bad--that's just a subjective value judgment.  Selfishness has the connotation of being a bad thing, but that's only because of dumb selfish people:  if you truly want to benefit yourself the most, it makes the most amount of rational sense to be nice to others, not rip them off, and help them out so one day they in turn will help you out.  What people commonly refer to as altruistic behavior can in reality just be a more intelligent form of selfishness, where the egoist has realized that in order to fully maximize his own happiness he should help others maximize theirs as well.  So don't get depressed over all the selfishness within the world--instead get depressed over the vast stupidity present within it.

Also, I know I tend to see the world through a more negative perspective whenever I'm not eating right, exercising daily, sleeping regularly, or abstaining from addictive drugs.  Attacking the problem of depression on both the biochemical front and the cognitive-behavioral front would be the best way to approach it, IMO.

Just because painting with a toothbrush in your mouth floats the boat for some folk that doesn't mean it would satisfy someone else.  This is why life's "worth" is very subjective. In my case I see some positives about life every day. That still doesn't make it worth it for me.  If my life was twice as good as it is now and comparatively I'd say my life is not that bad, it still would not likely be worth it for me.  As I've often stated, had I no death anxiety I'd have been long gone long ago.

Depression is seeing the world for what it truly is without seeing the exceptions or that you can be an exception. I mean, as simply put as you can put it, that's all it is. Just don't let the world reflect itself in you. That's what pushes you further into depression. It's hard to do though i know. I don't know if this helps or if it sounds like i'm talking out of my ass but whatever.

For that to really float my boat I would also need to be 30 or 40 years old again.

And the love interest would have to be love interest(s) as the high never lasts.

I get what you're saying.  The problem with reality depression is that you continue to deepen your understanding of what makes you depressed. It's like continually falling down the rabbit hole and seeing the top  hole where you fell in getting smaller and smaller and smaller and smaller.
