dont pet cats when they dont wanna be pet

my fucking annoyingass drunk mom has been sitting in my room the last 20 mins petting my cat and saying "aww" to him and saying the same things to me over and over and over

he hissed at her and ran away multiple times and she still continues to pet him

i told her that he doesnt want to be pet right now and she continued to do it

and now she's sittinghere staring at my hands saying "oh are you really typing that fast" over and over

like no mom, it' s ajoke. im not really typing that fast

oh look shes petting him again after i told her multiple times that he doesnt wanna be pet

at the same time that she's petting him she's saying "ok i get it, i get it he doesnt wanna be pet by anyone but you" while she continues to pet him simutanously

i needed someone to vent too, so i choose you shroomery

never pet cats when they dont want to be pet, it annoys them. when you do something to someone that they dont want to happen, it annoys them.

i have this one friend, a 21 year old person. 21 years on the face of this earth and he can't seem to grasp this concept either. sometimes my cat likes to get pet, other times he doesn't. the more forcible and fast-paced you are about it, the less well he responds to it

it's a very simple concept, and very easy to tell whether or not he wants to get pet by his response. yet he picks him up and like forcibly pets him then when my cat runs away or tries to he says "i dont know why (your cats name) is being like this today. normally he loves me."

i tell him that my cat needs his space and he laughs like its some sort of joke. as if humans are the only animals that ever need their space and other ones dont have any feelings and are supposed to magically cater to all of our wants

it's kind of funny actually that these other-species companions of ours are reffered to as "pets"

when he responds well to his petting he says "dude your cat loves me so much, im his favorite person."

it's funny because my cat tries to run away like 70 percent of the time he goes to pet him. my cat says a negative dysphoric "mrwowr" and then he blames it on the cat. he blames it on the cat that he doesnt like some annoying earth human holding him in one place and rubbing him over and over.

no it's not the fucking cats fault he gets grumpy when you're holding him in one place and brushing your hand against his fur over and over. just because you want him to like you doesn't he does

GIVE CATS THEIR SPACE WHEN THEY WANT IT

GIVE ALL ANIMALS THEIR SPACE WHEN THEY WANT IT MATTER OF FACT

My sister grasped this fact at 5 years old. Cat tore her face to shreds. I take it you removed your cats claws and that's why your mom hasn't learned yet?

when my cat was brought into our home he was already declawed with his front paws :sad:

however he still has back ones that hurt like a bitch. and he bites.

do you want to know what my mom does when he starts kicking with his back feet, biting, and hissing? she wraps her hand in her sweater sleeve and continues to pet him. genius idea mom, genius.

Haha I can completely see this scenario played out through my head between you and your mom. My sister and mom do shit like this all the time to my cats and dogs... one of my dog has turned into a paranoid freak because of it :facepalm:

Cats are dicks. They'll get all pissy for no reason and then when they want food or a warm place to lay they rub all over you.

None the less, I agree. It's pretty annoying how a lot of people don't pick up on the most obvious signals. It's pretty easy to spot when an animal is visibly annoyed with you. Even worse, a lot of people can't even tell when other humans are annoyed/want to be left alone.

It varies by the cat. My parents' cat (HazMat) seems to actually really enjoy using human hands as something analogous to strands of yarn. She's very gentle about it, seldom draws blood, but she loves smacking your hand away when you try to pet her.

Yeah, it's easy to tell when she's had enough because the claws start coming out.
