I would chuck the fat guy over hypothetically.  But this is all pretty impersonal as none of these people exist so I'm not sure how valid this is.

Yes, but physically pushing someone off with your own hands and doing it by pushing a button would elicit a different response in the average person.

I doubt I would think quickly enough to push the fat guy over.  I don't think I'd expect his weight to stop an entire train either.  Plus I'll probably get life in prison for killing someone who wouldn't ordinarily have died, despite the circumstances.  I would probably curl up on the floor and cry.

Yeah, it's a detachment. Similar, though not the same, as using a gun versus stabbing someone. It all boils down to how close you can get to death.


Even pulling the switch would be difficult to me, I think. If all the people involved were strangers, I think I would pull the switch but I wouldn't push the guy. Both scenarios bother me. Given the rest of my beliefs, I would think I'd view this more clinically but if I'm being honest with myself, I would be incredibly conflicted.

Asking if someone's a psychopath based solely on that situation makes it a loaded question. A far clearer trait that can be distinguished using this hypothetical, is how logical someone is.

Why would i push a fat guy off a ledge to supposedly stop a train? That ain't gonna happen, hes going to explode like a water balloon, not stopping a 20,000 tonne train.

Plus why are those people on the tracks in the first place? they must be idiots, or if not fate took them there, and i will let them die.
