You get one of those people who spend the entire movie being chased by a killer while the person tries to prove who it is, only to find out at the end of the movie it was themselves all along.

I'm not sure why you'd think a psychopath (sociopath?) wouldn't have anxiety. It doesn't mean they lack all emotion and feeling, it means they have severe anti-social tendencies and lack empathy/a conscience. They still get mad, sad, etc like everyone else. A lot of serial killers kill because they feel too much. Some highly traumatizing event they suffered when they were younger that they've never been able to let go of or get over.

That's what I was thinking. I imagine plenty enough psychopaths are on benzos... Anger or hatred or even anxiety can be strong motivations to hurt people you don't care about.

generally speaking
a lack of anxiety/fear mechanism is basically the defining difference between a psychopath and a sociopath
psychopaths are not wired to feel fear, and thus will frequently engage in high risk activities
have known one psychopath since high school
he has herpes, has totaled his car multiple times in car accidents
and if you are in the car with him and disagree on anything
he'll just floor it and swerve until you cave

sociopaths and people with antisocial personality disorders can have full blown anxiety disorders
but it does not really happen among psychopaths
which (presumably) also leads to the higher rate of violence among psychopaths
as they do not fear repercussion for their actions

It's not really anxiety reducing but more mental activity reducing which has anxiety recuding effects, pretty sure. So psychopaths will just think less on benzos probably

As a sociopath with an anxiety disorder
my issue is effectively an inability to connect and empathize with the feelings of others
but am able to recognize situations
my fears are entirely self-centered and ego-focused tho
so it is very unpleasant to try and be emotionally involved with me

recognize the negative impact on others as a result of my inability to connect
and feel distressed by it
but feel distressed for my own sake, rather than someone elses

so say someone lost their whole family in an accident
recognize that is traumatic
but my efforts to be considerate to the individual's feelings
is more coloured by fear of saying something that will cause him or her to resent me
than by concern of upsetting him or her further
because him or her being upset causes no resonance of any kind in me
have lost important people in my life; but cannot connect the experience of loss as mutual and relatable

this basically gives me the capacity to objectively respond to situations in socially acceptable ways
but social acceptability is the defining factor, rather than actual emotional impact on the other individual

W, the psychopath from high school
would make jokes at the individual's expense
because it would give him a laugh
and he does not care how others feel,
or will also lie in the face of contrary evidence to 'prove' his position as 'correct'
(he also threw knives at one of our mutual friends
because they were arguing in the kitchen, and knives happened to be around)

have never taken benzos tho,
so no frame of reference to how it would impact myself and my functionality
and have not been in touch with W for a few years now, once finding a way to break ties
so not even going to attempt to ask his input

If they kill ppl or have bad thoughts sober benzos will make it worse cause the logic part thats concerned about getting caught shuts off.
Like how ppl shop lift wile on that level but instead they can hurt ppl.

I believe psychopathy is more geared toward the lack of empathy for others rather than levels of anxiety.

Eliminating anxiety with benzodiazepines seems more fit for generalized anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, and so forth.

If I had to bet on treatment for an psychopath, I would go with cognitive behavioral therapy and possibly a medication.
