Translate UK slang to American slang

After watching a good bit of BBC America, I've realized that most Americans have no idea what the fuck most UK slang means, my self included. So I did the lame thing and looked at this article on wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_slang

Problem with this article is that it doesn't provide American equivalents to British/UK slang. So lets work together to try to figure out US/UK equivalents.

Here's what I got:

blimey= shit! (used as a term of shock or surprised)
bloke= just another term for a guy
bollocks= bullshit
bugger off= fuck off
Chav= whitetrash/redneck/dumb asshole
cock= douchebag, douche, or dick
fag= cigarette
fit= sexy/hot
fuck all= jack shit


That's about all I feel like doing for right now. I'll add more as I see Brits/Scotts/Irish/Aussies/Kiwis post more stuff that is unfamiliar to most Americans.

Also "cock it up" or "cocked it up" = fuck it up/fucked it up.

And "brilliant" doesn't really mean "genius" or "really smart", it usually just means "Awesome/great/excellent".

I've always thought wanker means the same thing as idiot or arrogant dick. And bloody more or less means fucking(not in terms of sex).


So if someone calls you a bloody wanker it's like saying fucking idiot, but just not as insulting/offensive for some reason.

tyre - tire (not really slang)

I also think mate can be the same thing as dude, depending on the context it's used in. Like:

You smoked a lot of herb mate= you smoked a lot of pot dude.

Oh yeah, car slang:

boot= trunk
bonnet= hood
"coo-pay"= "coop" (coupe) (2 door car)
saloon= sedan (4 door car)
estate car= wagon (station wagon)
lorrie= delivery truck/van

I love these. Particularly rhyming slang. There's a ton im to high to think of but one that sticks out right now is tuck in means to chow down. I also like soden and bugger as a polite form of fuck. Can anyone post some current interesting rhyming slang?

New Zealand is in between both, I recognize some of the slang but most of it just sounds weird and I can't imagine anyone saying it without the British accent.

bollocks can also mean balls like the testicular kind

wanker means jerk off

like if you watch some british porn youll hear the term every once in a while like "how would you like a wank?" "a wank would be brilliant"

oh yeah and spunk means cum lol i like to jerk off to delta white sometimes :shrug:
