A newb with a few questions about cultivating cubes.

First post, first thread! I am very happy to be a member after lurking for months.
Intro. For questions, scroll down toward bottom.

A year ago in high school I experimented with LSA, which was fantastic until I had a series of bad trips that lead to my ultimate promise to myself never to dabble with that junk again. I got a taste for psychedelics though, and have never gotten them out of my mind. I searched for LSD, but there is none to be found in PA. I had friends in high school who took shrooms, but I never did because I was to afraid, seeing as though they are way more potent than 800 morning glory seeds (which lead to my cut off). I did have the chance to though if I wanted to.

Months later I finally decided I wanted to try shrooms, but my connects were busted, and I did not have the balls to mail them to me through tor.... so I became interested in cultivation, and my relationship with shroomery hath begun.

Months later (today) I am really ready to start getting into the cultivation of shrooms, but not before I ask a few question.

The search button is my best friend. These questions I have not found complete and thorough answers to.

Please, just answer as much as you can as thoroughly as you wish.

1) I do not want to grow more than 3 - 5 pf cakes at one time, so as a result I will have a small fruiting chamber. I cannot decide between a small, 5 cake max capacity shotgun, or fruiting 3 2-liter bottle teks at a time. There has been debate if a small SG is even effective. What is your advice?

2) I’m growing a small amount of shrooms for a reason. One, I don’t plan to sell. Two, I need to be rather stealth. I have parties at my house regularly and you never know what guests may be getting their noses into when you aren’t watching. I’m not interested in having my shroom cultivation knowledge to anyone besides you and me, so I’m hoping to put my fruiting chamber in an incognito place. I have 2 options that I like for convenience and out-of-the-way-ness.

a. My furnace room. It is the size of a walk in closet that is connected to my basement via a small storage room. My basement is usually warmer than the others, probably because the furnace is down there. I figure being in the furnace room will be a plus because the temp is usually around 73-76 Fahrenheit. It also has a window for indirect light. The only disadvantages I see are poor air circulation (maybe? Look at the pictures and tell me if I am right) and since it is within 2 yards of the furnace, maybe slightly higher carbon monoxide (CO) levels. The CO detector that is 2 feet away never trips, but I am not sure if the slightest amount of CO would harm my future shroom growth.
Location of tek. I just used some random tote to demonstrate location.

Location I was standing for second picture. You can see the furnace.

Furnace room connects to [messy] storage room which connects to basement. There is decent air flow in the basement, so maybe if I leave both doors open, the furnace room will get good airflow too. Idk though. It may already have good airflow, but I am not sure how to test that.

b. Another option is on top of this rather tall cabinet I have. It has just enough space between the top of the cabinet and the ceiling to fit a soda bottle tek. Would this work better? I do not know the temperature fluctuation of this place.

Soda bottle tek would fit fine. Location gets decent indirect light, the window source would be located to the left, across the kitchen.

3) This is in reference to the Soda Bottle Tek. If I choose to go this route, I will either use a 2 liter, or a lettuce crisper (http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/12623190). What I am confused about is FAE and humidity. Am I supposed to put holes in it like a shotgun? Or just unscrew the cap… varying suggestions have been posted that conflict with each other.

4) I am at work from 6 until 3. I cannot fan or mist as I live alone. Does this make mushroom cultivation impossible or will I get away with my shrooms being unattended for 9 hours? I think I prefer using the soda bottle tek, so this is mostly directed towards that. I’m pretty sure the shotgun will do fine for that long.

5) What kind of yield will I expect from 3 cakes in a shotgun. What yield can I expect from 3 cakes in individual soda bottle teks?

6) In the soda bottle tek, the shrooms will inevitably rub up against the side. I have read that this can cause bacterial infections or some jazz and make the shrooms inedible. I have also read the contrary: that a shroom touching the condensate on the side will have no detrimental effects. What is the deal?

7) Would a soda bottle tek work in a closet? That would make everything simpler

the first mistake i made was, worrying about where i was going to fruit before i even got a cake ready. It's optimistic, but also putting the cart before the horse. You have plenty of time.

I would do whatever FC is cheapest and easiest to create. Keep an eye out for free soda bottles. Find a soda bottle tek that seems like it makes sense to you and follow it. You can put multiple soda bottles all over the house. At the scale your trying, that's all you need.

On average you will yield under a quarter oz from a cake, normally about an 8th(This is ballpark btw.  Plenty of people have gotten much bigger flushes, as well as smaller from cakes).  From you stating you love tripping, I would be doing more.  As far as a terrarium, you can do a shotgun soda bottle easily.  One per cake.  This would also isolate each cake in the chance you had one contaminate, you only lose one cake.

Holes all around just like a SGFC.  It is a SGFC, just not in a tote.  Treat it alike.

Mist/fan when you leave, and when you get back, and then again before bed at minimum.

Yield questions are hard to answer but I gave a ballpark figure on question one.

They can touch the sides just fine.  I have no idea what you are even referencing being inedible TBH.

It will, yes.  However there is not normal air flow in the closet.  With you being gone for 9 hours, I would suggest against the closet unless you can put a VERY small fan on a timer to turn on once a hour for maybe 5 seconds, and not blowing on the tub.

Thanks for the replies! I really like the cup idea, but I want a decent amount of shrooms so I will probably do the 2 liter. I would like to see around an eight per cake, and I don't think the cups will work for that. They seem more novelty than anything.

Can I put the 2 liter in a foot locker? That is another location I was thinking. It's 30in x 15in and 14 inches tall. I don't think it would work, but then again I would only be putting one bottle in their so maybe the air in there is enough. To my understanding it needs air circulation, so I could just stick a fan in there and put it on a timer... idk I just want somewhere discreet to put my grow. I am not interested in a felony, and am rather paranoid about it

I didnt want to be "that" person but... Dont grow in your parents house dude, besides being extremely insulting to them you are putting them at risk as well..

You are just sticking to a very small grow but its just not cool imo.

Btw I don't understand why people would think he is growing in any place other then his.  If he was, he would be growing in his closet or under his bed or someplace in the attic.  I have never seen someone growing in a place they shouldn't, out in the "open" more or less.  Highly doubt that is the case so let's give the guy a break.

OP, go with the bottles. The top of the fridge should work just fine.

Also, using a cup over a 2-liter bottle won't make any noticeable difference in yield as long as each are fanned/misted properly.

We really don't need to judge.  For one that could be family,  you don't know how old he is.

Two, not a single newb, specially underage or living with parents has done anywhere near as much research as he has.  That alone shows me maturity, which is why I responded in the first place.  I see zero reason to give him(or her) a hard time.
