Well...usually from casing "birth" it takes about 1 and 1/2 to 2 weeks before you get actual pinning. First you get what i call "pre-pins" which are just little white or yellowish lumps about 1 or 2 millimeter across. It takes them a few days to even become pins. You didnt say how long its been since "birth"..or if u did i didnt pay enought attention. I wouldnt worry TOO much.

Yeah, good point. Its been ~2.5 weeks since birth. The rhizomorhpic growth appeared heavily at about 8 days, then progressively turned nastier grayer and more dead looking.

I'm just trying to place my faith in Jah and the robustness of the fungus now

If you scrape a layer off the casing you might find that things will get better. But thats risking sterility. A friend of mine had the same problem as yours.. but its a fairly general one and there could be many reasons.

spray it and place a plastic foil lid with litle holes on it...untill you can see mycelium....
fan it...

things are picking up a bit now, the pinning has spread to more parts of both trays, so its not quite as pathetic, but is still very sparse. I think the first flush will be pretty weak over all...

Its going to grow out pretty unevenly too... that is I'm sure I'll have some men with broken veils while still forming pins. Should I harvest the whole flush once a large % of veils are ready to break, or should I harvest the boys one at a time?

What is the best way to prep things for a more successful second flush?

Even with the lackadaisical performance, I still see new pins EVERY TIME I LOOK! This is fantastically exciting! What a great hobby! I think its a lot more fun and easy than growing herb. I'm rationing how often I get to look at them to once every three hours 8)

I really appreciate the shroomery for being such a good resource. If y'all need some html gruntwork or the like done, I'm willing.
