Is this a true debate?  Or are you joking?  You know how many ways you can take drugs over the counter and legally and/or in hospitals and at home?  But if you if drink or sip alcohol you are in danger? WTF?

Let alone the air you breathe in your city, how many carcinogens are in that pollution?  Some reports say it's like smoking a pack a day.

This is quite an ignorant statement, and I noticed the logic in your other posts is flawed as well.

I have personally known quite a few junkies in their fifties and sixties... people who did heroin for DECADES and were perfectly healthy. Opiates are dangerous because they slow the central nervous system. Period. I'm sure that ingesting any kind of chemical is somewhat taxing on the body, to one degree or another. But compared to a lot of other stuff, most opiates, even notorious ones like heroin, are not very hard on the body.

Contrast this with alcohol which absolutely is harmful. It's hell on the liver, and any time you consume enough alcohol to feel "intoxicated" you have successfully killed brain cells. The issue is really a no-brainer. Unless you're a drinker trying to defend alcohol just because you like to indulge, in which case that would make YOU a no-brainer.

I'm a no-brainer.:lahey:  How many great writings have come from alcoholics killing their brains cells, Ernest Hemingway, Hunter S. Thompson, F. Scott Fitzgerald, great prose and insight?  And you justify heroin?  I love some junkie writers like the beat generation but it's an ignorant point.

And your avatar is a dumb heroin junkie who made shit music and killed his girlfriend then o'd on purpose as did his mom on heroin to escape while on bail.

Oh noes! THAT is who my avatar is? Fuck! I am shame.

:frown:

Actually, he probably didn't kill his girlfriend, if you really read into the story deep enough. But you're probably the type who believes everything in the media. I am not, btw, a big pistols fan. So you didn't make me cry all that hard. His name is Syd. My name is CID. Get it?

:facepalm3:

And while you're busy getting defensive, shit-for-brains, maybe you should take a step back and realize that I was not blasting all drinkers. Do what you please. Enjoy it. "YOLO" or some stupid fucking sentiment like that. I was specifically calling out the member I was quoting, for trying to make it sound like opiates are harder on the body than alcohol. If he had any valid information to back this up (it doesn't exist) I might not have felt the need to write the way I did. But I find it frustratingly stupid when people try to defend the merits of their drugs of choice, just because they like them.

I'm not saying opiates are good for you. I'm not saying they're entirely harmless, either. I AM saying that in terms of how much they tax most bodily systems, they are less harmful than "MOST" drugs, not including cannabis and many psychs. Does that mean they're safe? Far from it. We all know opiates can be easy to OD on if used to excess. However, this is due to their depression of the CNS, which is a temporary effect. They're also dangerous because of how addictive they are, etc.

By contrast, alcohol ALSO slows down the CNS and can kill you this way, and it is ALSO addictive. However, alcohol is (IMO) much more insidious in its addiction. Because, a lot of alcoholics think they'll be okay if they keep drinking, or that they don't have a problem, whereas a lot of junkies do not share this delusion. Further, alcohol kills braincells, severely damages the liver, can cause ulcers, etc etc etc. Alcohol is also responsible for many car accidents and acts of violence.

But a couple lushes wrote a few good books... so it must be some awesome shit!

Your logic is impressive.

(And soaked in gin, it seems)

I agree you listed some great writers. You missed a few, even. But there are a lot of junkie writers as well. Some that we probably don't even know are junkies. It can be an easy habit to hide, you know. Not to mention all the musicians who DON'T suck, and were absolute junkies (I'll be the first to admit that Vicious could barely hold a bass guitar, let alone play one... but he looked damn good doing it. haha)

So you can flap your booze-soaked gums all you want. It does not change the facts. I think the fact that you became so defensive in favor of alcohol is something you should maybe think about. For your own good. Or you could just drink up and call me a junkie faggot. Alcohol does seem to have an interesting way of making one's mouth work faster than their brain.

Im not much of a drinker but since your going to take that low blow ill take one as well. My guess is you a junkie trying to justify your personal opiate use. Some strong junkie logic right thurr

Alcohol is infinitely better for you than heroin but have fun getting that across to a junkie.

I wouldn't say infinitely better...

This is pseudo-scientific reasoning here, but I think it gets the point across:

Chemicals similar to heroin:
  • Morphine
  • Codeine
  • Hydromorphone

Chemicals similar to alcohol:
  • Isopropyl Alcohol
  • Methyl Alcohol

The heroin chemicals cause a similar high.
The alcohol chemicals cause blindness and death. Ethanol is the same, just much weaker.

Don't quote me or view this as science or fact. It's just how I perceive it.

No it's not, don't let your ignorance spew forth. It just makes you look silly at best. Alcohol is actually much worse than heroin.
In fact, the former president of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology, Prof. David Nutt agrees with that.

Infinitely better seems like a stretch, they can both kill you. Only one of the two drugs causes potentially fatal withdrawal symptoms though (it's alcohol.)

So what are we talking about junkie #2?
Clean heroin vs. Clean alcohol? or the life of an alcoholic versus the life of a junkie?

Junkies life is far more detrimental to ones health than an alcoholics. All my junkie friends are either in jail or unemployed and homeless. My alcoholic buddies aren't that much better off but they aren't jail and dont have hep c.

None of that has much to do with the actual properties of the substances involved. You suggested earlier that opiates may harm the liver like alcohol does, do you know of any studies that back that up?

 Nope.  It's amazing how powerful social stigma is... I'd bet the majority of posters in here claiming that alcohol is healthier than opiates are basing their belief purely on the fact that society deems heroin as a "dirty" drug whereas alcohol is socially acceptable.  In point of fact alcohol is much more toxic than opiates:

Quote:
Also, the physical consequences of long-term narcotics use are minor compared to alcohol.  People can take opium and opiates every day for years and remain in good health, provided they keep up good habits of hygiene and nutrition.  There are many documented cases of opium and morphine addicts who, despite lifelong, heavy habits, survived to ripe old ages, remaining healthy to the end.  Thomas De Quincey, for instance, who started taking laudanum for a toothache as  college student, died at seventy-four, still an addict.  The worst medical effect of regular opiate use is severe and chronic constipation, which can be distressing, but hardly compares to the cirrhosis of the liver, and degeneration of the nervous system so commonly seen in chronic alcoholics.

  The dangers of street heroin use come from the associated impurities and unsterile routes of administration.  Pure opiates such as pharmaceutical-grade heroin, in moderate doses, however, are much healthier for you than pure ethanol.

Do you call everyone who doesn't agree with your ignorance a junkie?
The reason your alcoholic buddies don't have hep c and are not in jail is because alcohol is not prohibited by law. It has nothing to do with whether heroin is a safer drug pharmacologically than ethanol.

OK, as I spout forth, on the theory that heroin is less damaging than alcohol then believe that and live that and believe that in your heroes.  So concerned about your bodies?  What about your food you eat, the air you breathe, and so on?  In the U.S. it used to be a argument against Prohibition before they outlawed opium because of the Chinese that you can put anything in your body that you want.  And I agree with that premise, say it's horrible and bad, I don't care it's legal.  Do you hold your body to be a supreme source of experience and just let others be?  I do.

So I don't care about this, I will drink, I will smoke pot now that it is legal in Colorado, and I will take my legal FDA approved klonopin.  FUCK OFF. :hi:
