Question about tv show size, 1080i being bigger than 1080p??
    #17182180 -

Why is it when downloading a tv show from piratebay, the 1080p version will be around 2gb and the 1080i version of the same episode is 4.4gb?

Is this due to 1080p being single progressive scan and 1080i being two digitals put together?

It's a 1080p file by publicHD, Will these legit be 1080p?

It has to do with however the uploader transcoded the file, what codec they used aka what type of file it is (avi, mov, wmv etc ) 1080p is better than 1080i, but they are the same size and you may not really even be able to tell much of a difference depending on  what u are viewing it on.

I've never heard of the uploader u mentioned so idk if they are legit

Resolution is only one facet of file size.  The bitrate at which it was encoded is the file size difference you see there.  A high bitrate 1080i will likely look better than a lower bitrate 1080p.

In addition to the above two posts, there's also the audio bitrate and sampling rate, as well as surround sound/stereo encoding, that can drastically alter a file size; a 5.1 surround track is obviously going to be substantially larger than 2.0 stereo track.  Frame rate is also another one.  When I download basketball games, for example, the 60fps is nearly a full gigabyte larger than the 30fps file.
