Joining freemasonry

I'm wanting to join but I'm not really sure what it's all about. I'm into history, the bible, spirituality and ancient knowledge. From my understanding of what research I've done, this is sort of what it's about? Is there anyone here who are masons that can give me some guidance?

I'm a master mason. I got into it because of my dad. It's a bunch of old guys I don't really have much in common with. Being into history, the Bible, and spirituality doesn't really matter. It's a social club more than anything, for guys to get away from the wives, lol. I guess it's something to do, but I've grown to find it dull, and the ritual work is the same thing over and over again, which has also become rather dull to me. They are also very against illegal intoxicants so you need to lie about that, btw. If you want to join you'll have to ask a master mason, and not me, lol. If my lodge ever read my posts on this site I'd probably be kicked out for unmasonic conduct. Do a web search for your cities lodge and email them. And be sure they're regular masons. Depending on your state there may be a clandestine lodge or two and we nothing to do with them.

Damn, thanks for the help. I guess it's not for me then. I was under the impression I'd learn a lot of cool stuff that could help me grow spiritually. I'm not real big on socializing and stuff like that. I guess I thought it would be like a school for ancient spiritual knowledge and mysticism lol. Besides that the only other thing I was hoping to get in on is the charity and things like that. Thanks again bro. Peace

Ya, you won't get any ancient spiritual knowledge in masonry. You'll get 3  lectures which are interesting and beneficial, the first ten times you hear them. It's really a social club more than anything else and the charity and stuff is just kind of there. If you want to do charity work there are a ton of things masons do though. My lodge donates to a half dozen different masonic charities and sponsors a boy scout troop, not to even mention the families we sponsor at Christmas and the toys giveaway. Don't mean to put you off of masonry, just don't want you to get disappointed either. I think as I get older I'll find it more of a fit for me. At my age and position in life it just doesn't have too much to offer.

I have seen bumperstickers that say, "Want to be a Mason? Ask a Mason" so I do not think it is a strictly invitational thing.  The stone masons now are very different than what they were when they first organized. Lots of lore say they were an offshoot of the Illuminati which were a sect of the Knights Templar. How true that is, I do not know. A mojority of the Fremasons now are just an organization to get together and socialize, though there are rumors that there is a secret higher order of Freemasons with wealthy and powerful men in control of major corporations and industries. Who knows, I probably watch too many movies.

You will never be asked. It's against the rules to ask someone to join. It's important that the candidate petition of their own free will and accord. I don't know where that invitation rumor came from but it's the opposite of the truth.

join the oto instead. not trolling. you get the initiation rituals and the fraternal structure like masonry, and membership basically joins to talk about ancient history, mythology, spirituality, and drug use is common and welcome. and WOMEN can join the oto....

I wish we were that way. I really do. It would make it worth going to lodge if it were. I think that has to do with the New York masons 100+ years ago who pretty much ran the Tamminy Hall gang. If you want to hang with the elites I think you'd have better luck over at the Harvard Club or the Hyannisport yacht club, lol. It's been a lot of years since the Masons had political influence. If that's what you're interested in I'd say don't waste your time.

Masons ate my baby.  Also, if you join, you'll have to kill lots of bad people...but they're bad so maybe its good.  Maybe that's why they ate my baby.

illuminati are chill. they infiltrated the masons to overthrow monarchy and make way to democracy in europe mainland. back then democracy was evil.

Can you tell me more bout this?  Why are they so against it? And are you sure that's not just the "official policy?"
