sometimes the shit seems too good to be true, it usually is. Not to say that crazy deals havent been made off of craigslist.

I once sold a truck for 3 ounces of weed, $80, and a ride to the train station. This was from someone that just called me up, and asked if i would be down for out.

and more importantly, why would you be willing to loose a thousand bucks just because you didn't want to go through the hastle of returning it but still have just as much of a hastle trying to sell it and not get ripped off.

The whole story is Bestbuy (and other brick and mortar) stores sell a sharp 70" LED for just over 3k.  I can find the exact same model online for about $2400.

If I didn't like it, I'd try to resell it, hoping to minimize my losses.  Even to ship back (or return to a store), I have no means of transport or anything.  I'd have to get a special service to come pick it up, pack it, etc.  I figure that service would be so expensive, that returning vs. reselling may be equal.

I'm just curious, realizing its a first world problem.  Anywho, the original question stands:  Is cash still the best way to do larger transactions?  I know people buy and sell vehicles and I was merely curious.

How does said scam work through Western Union? I have my doubts that Western Union is really that easy to use with fraudulent credit card information, and that has been the only proposed avenue of scam thus far. Shroomism already stated he was pretty sure it was a scam, which I agree with. Anyone willing to so vastly overpay for something is generally not on the up and up.

If Western Union was so easy to use with a stolen credit card why not just use it to send cash to an accomplice and split the money that way? Why go through the trouble of buying shit?

No, I made the damn thread. Knowing it's a scam.
If anything, it will help to educate others.

Still not 100% convinced as sweden is the only one who offered a practical explanation.
I am very experienced with buying and selling shit online, especially virtual goods.
I've seen ALL the scams, I know HOW they work, but this one confuses me. This is a common scam. But they NEVER want to use Western Union. 

Scammers who are buying shit, almost always wants to use Paypal. Because they can easily dispute the claim and the seller almost always loses.
Western Union is a one-way thing. You send the money, it's fucking gone. There's usually no tracing it back.
All you need is the MTCN# and anyone can pick it up anonymously anywhere in the world.
I've heard of scammers using Western Union that are SELLING shit. It's great for that. Ideal even.
But NEVER scammers buying shit by using Western Union. So it struck me as odd.

I once sold a video game character for $5,000, so crazier shit has happened.

The phone I'm selling retails (right now) at $550, so 350 isn't insane.

badchad - If it was a brand new TV, you paid say 3k and were trying to sell it for 2k, you could maybe pull that off.
But most likely you would have lowballers trying to offer you 500 and shit.
In general craigslist is pretty hit or miss. You usually have to post things up multiple times, have to wade through scammers, etc.
For something of that much value I would pretty much only meet in person, that's the only way you gotta do it. Cash.

Most people aren't going to be able to move a 70" TV - it's part of why they have terrible resale values.

If you can afford a 70" TV rent a fucking U-haul van, it shouldn't be that difficult. I think it more likely that anyone that can afford of TV of that magnitude would just as soon have one new, unless, of course, they're jewish.
