is this stealing?
    #1690239 - 07/06/03 04:00 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

Not that I have a moral objection to "stealing"...

So a couple days ago I'm in Safeway, I get my stuff to the checkout. They tell me that if I buy 35 bucks worth I get 10% off! So I make everyone behind me wait while I go buy eight dollars worth of more food. (I bought 12 pizza pops fyi)

I pay, and I get a 20 changed into a ten and two fives. I look at my wallet and I am mysteriously missing a twenty.
"Did I give you 60?"
"no, 40"
"Are you sure, cuz I'm missing a 20" I knew this bcuz i just took out 100 from my bank.
"Yeah, you gave me 40"
....."where the hell...
"OH! I got a twenty changed. DUH! Let me just go smoke some more weed"
"ha, chronic's always good tho." says the attractive checkout girl.

SO, I grab my bags, and she hands me the last bag.

I walk down the street towards home. (yes, I am walking to safeway...)
"damn this shits heavy." So I set down the bags and readjusted the handles. But wait, whats this? I didnt buy Eggo waffles,WTF? Inside one of the bags there was waffles, some cheese, and a huge bag of hashbrowns, all of which I didnt pick out. I look at my reciept to see if I got charged for this stuff.

NOpe, however, the girl charged me for the expensive oranges instead of the kind i bought. CLEARLY a rip off tactic. I did NOT go back to get the groceries straightened out. they tasted pretty good too.

I would have to say it was not your food. You did not take it though, it was a mistake of whom ever bagged it up. Don't worry about it. As for your oranges I think that was also a mistake. There are a lot of produce codes and the cashier got them mixed up or doesn't know the difference. I doubt it was done to make you pay extra.

You didn't do it on purpose and if you would have gone back the people that it belonged to probably wouldn't have gotten it back. Whoever it belonged to probably got a new one anyways so you did take it from the store but

-finishes thinking, has headache-

No.

Yes it's stealing.

Once the mistake was made the onus was on you to at least call the store. Chances are they might have said don't worry about it as they are perishable goods.

Look at it this way...
you own a store, lets say a music store.
If a customer accidently walked out with an extra bag.... wouldn't you like to see him return them?

Once you realized neither had payed, the right thing to do would be to have gone back and made it right.

Karma.

The other day me and a friend went to subway.

He got a sandwich and told the guy that I was paying for his. He sat down and began eating it. By the time I was ready to pay for my sandwich there was a different cashier there and he didn't know about my friend and I just got charged for my sandwich.

Success!
