Making Images with transparent background

I'm trying to figure out how to make an animated signature for here that has a transparent background so it'll look awesome no matter what the user's forum background color is set to.

I've been reading about GIF and PNG and the differences and I just can't get a clear answer on exactly how to do this in Photoshop.

I'm using Photoshop CS5.1, saving as PNG or GIF and checking the transparency box and it's still coming up with a box around it... I'm uploading the images onto myspace (which might be the problem too) and using the copy image URL to move it to here.

Any tips are GREATLY appreciated! Thanks guys!

When you go to save it as a GIF DO NOT USE "SAVE AS"

Use "SAVE FOR WEB" than select additional perimeters. This is assuming you made each layer in the background transparent in the Timeline of your animation.

Yeah, it's one layer, and it has a transparent background in photoshop, I click 'Save for web' and click transparency box, but it still shows up as a white box... are there any specific parimeters I have to adjust?

well, the animation will be more than one layer, but the test image I'm trying to work with is only one layer

Take a screen shot of the "Save for Web" page with the background showing your animation.

Alright, how's that sig look? I uploaded it into Photo Bucket and now it's working it seems.... I think the problem was I was using Myspace to upload the image into like an idiot :smile:

Add an alpha channel to the bottom layer of your Photoshop document
