Calling all Republican voters!!!
    #16797940 -

I should start by saying, I've been watching the banter between the Dems and GOP for the last 2 years and I've seen quite a lot of interesting things but one question comes to mind: "Why vote Republican?" and I don't wanna hear something stupid like "Obama's a faggot". I want a legit answer because I seem to have a hard time getting a legit answer from Republicans.

Now, I'm not saying the Democrats are completely innocent but from where I'm standing they have "purer" intentions.

Please, change my mind, Enlighten me.

Don't vote republican. That would mean Mitt Romney would become president. When I look in his eyes I don't see the emotion of a normal person, I see the shell of a money chaser. He wants to cut taxes for the rich, increase them for the poor, and decrease regulations. Bill Clinton fixed our economy doing exactly the opposite. Obama loves spending money and I hate the Idea of us not starting on our huge debt, so I say vote libertarian.

I'm probably not a "republican voter", but I'll answer the question anyways:

1.  To decrease the defeciet.  Obama has supported and signed legislation that has increased our defeciet by a large amount.  If Romney is elected, its somewhat more likely that he'll veto crap that increases our defeceit further (other than military stuff, which Republicans often seem to apply different standards to), and its quite possible his rhetoric will be able to bring attention to the issue and dissuade congress from continuing down this path.

2.  Help the economy.  By not having the looming threat of government intervention in various markets, there will be a more normalized and predictable outlook for businesses and investors, helping the economy.  Romney running the massive administrative apparatuses would probably help reduce pressure on companys through rulemaking and enforcement tending more towards a hands off approach of purely private concerns.

3.  Steer the country to a conservative, smaller government mindset: highly speculative, but people tend to view the present state as normative, and will perhaps support less government involvement in our lives and more freedom if a Republican is president who is somewhat conservative.  This has, philosophically, the best chance for reducing the harms of drug prohibition and other government involvement in private lives (other than marriage and abortion, which republicans seem to have a particular desire to control).  Beyond Mitt's thuggish stance on the use of substances he doesn't approve of, the philosophy of prohibition is completely morally bankrupt from a conservative standpoint, and if we can keep him from fucking up harm reduction (opioid maintnance/treatment facilities, and laws, access to clean needles, 'medical' marijuana clinics, et cet) more than Obama is, there may be some small future benefit.

What's that based on?  Should we vote based on your, or even our, "eye gazing"?  Sounds like ridiculous nonsense.

Who cares even if he is a money chaser?  Why does that matter?

?  You've got to be kidding me- let's here this justified.  Clinton got into office and promptly adopted some of the most radical deregulation proposals of the Republicans.  He slashed welfare/aid to the poor eligibility and beefed up requirements to get it more than even many Republicans were asking for.  He instituted a thuggish restraint on Habeas Corpus via AEDPA.  Have you just made this up from your preconceptions of Clinton as a liberal synthesized with your knowledge that the economy did well under him?  This is absurd.

Clinton's whole schtick seemed to be giving pandering speeches and doing whatever seemed expediant- he gave the Republicans a lot of what they wanted.  How this man is considered a regulator is beyond me- the liberals who were paying attention hated him at the time.

When it comes to in depth knowledge of Government and its inner workings, I feel completely in the dark.  When I hear about new bills, I think wow that sounds like a really good thing. Then when I hear someone else explain loopholes of that bill and negative things that could accompany it I feel "How could I have missed all that" I partially blame it on the News corporations. It feels like I never truly hear both sides. In order for me to do that I have to watch Fox and Msnbc. Then I walk away from the television, not knowing who I trust, or who to believe. When I think about a president, I don't want to have the impression that a man is running just to up his popular status. I guess I just don't want a president who has NO idea what its like to be a middle class kinda guy. He doesn't have the concerns that I have in life. His concerns are how to put his millions in offshore accounts, while my concerns are paying my electric bill. So yes I do put forth some hesitance in Romney without ever even hearing his speech.

well, props for coming clean- most don't.

I looked into those claims and they seem to combine Mitt's promise to balance the budget with his plans for tax cuts and program cuts.  The premise is that since his platform wouldn't balance the budget through explicit provisions, he'll have to raise certain taxes to do so, and this would include the cited increase for middle and lower class people.

My take on this is that its pretty dishonest.  Like most candidates, Mitt seems to avoid making defeinite proposals and platform positions on most issues as it just provides facts with which he can be attacked.  The fact that he didn't spell out where the money to fulfill his promise would come from doesn't mean that it can be combined with another promise to infer a source.

The fact is that these proposals are offered cynically and many turn out to be lies, as Obama's record demonstrates.  I agree Romney should be criticized for his lack of clear platform on many issues and honest, open, discussion, but for Obama to criticize this when he's the prince of vague mantras, broken promises, and fluff rather than substance, is absurd.  This is a valid critique of Romney, its just not a reason to downgrade him compared to Obama.

What I do is try to remember that the average person interested in politics seems to hate the other party and tolerate their own.  They seem to want slanted news and analysis, see MSNBC and FOX, and want their preconceptions buttressed.

When watching those shows, I try to find the facts and consider the pundits views for what they are: political positions.  You'll often find better info online or in the papers than the TV news- it seems the latter tries to appeal to the prejudices of their audience rather than discuss the stories of the day in any honest sense.

I wouldn't even care about the partisanship and lieing if they wouldn't insult my intelligence by pretending to be somewhat neutral- there's nothing wrong with partisan  screeds, but I don't like to be taken for a sucker, or a coward who can't have his views challenged.

It wobbles my mind that anybody would give one shred of credit when the opposition tells what the other party's policies are.  I am going to vote Republican because of the huge amount of damage liberals have done to this country.  We are becoming a nation of dependents and that is not a good thing.  To help explain my disgust for Democrats see this:

John Kennedy was dead wrong with his fucking "Ask not" speech.  Fuck you, Kennedy, the only purpose of government ("your country") is to do for the people.

Republicans stand behind the blind hatred for entire groups of people. It is a very common tactic of fox news to use fear to get the support they need by completely lying, and extremely embellishing the truth in certain topics that most republicans feel strongly about. I'm Libertarian pretty much through and through, it comes down to the core beliefs of the party. I'm not going to "Not" give someone a chance just because of there party, but 9 times out of 10 I would not vote Republican. I'm pretty tired of all this Liberal talk.  The definition of liberal is Open to new behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values. How would someone with behaviors similar to this be destroying america? You sound like a spokesperson for fox.  Bush and Romney both were big believers in the Bail outs and the economy stimulation that obama is not getting shit for. But they way I see it, Bushes stimulation did NOTHING, Obamas has made a positive gain and it hasn't stopped. Deep down I have the belief that the money had to be spent, or we would have  been in pretty bad shape. My biggest concern with the current administration is that there is not even a plan in the works that is addressing the issue of our debt.

You whine about the size of the debt and applaud the huge spending of porkulus? Almost a trillion dollars of debt for what?  This joke?

http://www.aei-ideas.org/2012/05/cbo-obama-stimulus-may-have-cost-as-much-as-4-1-million-a-job/

Quote:
The Congressional Budget Office in a new report:

When [the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act] was being considered, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation estimated that it would increase budget deficits by $787 billion between fiscal years 2009 and 2019. CBO now estimates that the total impact over the 2009–2019 period will amount to about $831 billion.

By CBO’s estimate, close to half of that impact occurred in fiscal year 2010, and more than 90 percent of ARRA’s budgetary impact was realized by the end of March 2012. CBO has estimated the law’s impact on employment and economic output using evidence about the effects of previous similar policies and drawing on various mathematical models that represent the workings of the economy. …

On that basis CBO estimates that ARRA’s policies had the following effects in the first quarter of calendar year 2012 compared with what would have occurred otherwise:

    – They raised real (inflation-adjusted) gross domestic product (GDP) by between 0.1 percent and 1.0 percent,

    – They lowered the unemployment rate by between 0.1 percentage points and 0.8 percentage points,

    – They increased the number of people employed by between 0.2 million and 1.5 million,

    – They increased the number of full-time-equivalent jobs by 0.3 million to 1.9 million. (Increases in FTE jobs include shifts from part-time to full-time work or overtime and are thus generally larger than increases in the number of employed workers.)

OK, so without the stimulus, there would be anywhere from 200,000 to 1.5 million fewer people employed right now? That means the current cost-per-job created is somewhere between $4.1 million and $540,000.

The government spent half a million dollars of money it didn't have to create each of around a million jobs?  These morons shouldn't be allowed to carry a roll of quarters much less hold the reins of government.

Big L Liberal is not the same as little l liberal.  Don't get cute.  There is nothing open mided about the commie cunts whoo fly under the Liberalor, if you prefer, "Progressive" banner.  They are neither open minded nor progressive.  If a Negro is a conservative he is an Uncle Tom.  If a woman is a conservative she is window dressing.  These Liberals are anything but liberal.  They are power mad scum.

But can you see how someone who considers themselves to be a liberal in this since of the word, would feel almost like there is a prejudice from the right against them? Its like your definition of what you consider a "nigger" to be. Some people say "black people in general" others say it, and when asked what they consider to be a nigger, "a low life thief without a job". Now if I were black, I would think that both Guy A and B were racist because I would automatically believe that his use of the word would be in the context of how the word originated. Never knowing that guy B had no preconceived notions of the black guy. I think its careless of the right media to attack liberals in such a unforgiving way.  It wasn't until Obama started running for president that Liberals came under such fire. I think it will always be synonymous with bad on the right.

That's a lot of assumptions right there. You know what they say about assuming.

You have to spend money to make money, that's Business 101. Obama, after being handed America (in one of it's worst financial states) has ONLY spent 4 trillion.

Republicans have the EXACT same plans as Obama but no way to pay for them. When the debates come around, everyone will see.

But Demoractic Americans are not your enemy, nor are Republicans mine, we live in the same country we HAVE to compromise. I agree with having a small federal government to over see world diplomacy, the army and make sure the states laws coincide. I think the the states should tax for water, housing, schooling, internet etc. and since the government would only be made of up of volunteers who wouldn't see a dime of the tax money, the people, as a whole would be getting the money.
