Re: Mycelium on Agar Picture Thread [Re: BlimeyGrimey]
    #16311588 -

I can't wait to work with a sclerotia producing strain (my favorite is Mex A) on agar. RR said some strains will grow stones ON the agar, and those are the ones to keep.

Do you guys find Reishi to be hydrophobic? Or is it some sort of selective permeability? It doesn't seem to saturate as readily as some sp. (Maybe just denser mycelial mat?)

Reishi definitely chooses the moment of its wetness, I have had no problem taking a relatively young culture on agar and running it through the sterile blender for LC purposes.

Sterility is a process that can be likened unto infinity, which is a long walk, the closer to the end you start before beginning, the more achievable  the goal of infinity becomes.  Remember, cleanliness in next to goddessness

I'm not sure that this is Calocybe carnea, it could well be a contaminate. It's purty and I'm posting some pictures, I'll try to get some better pics later.

Some agarplates of P.Zapotecorum and P.Cyanofriscosa.

Start with P.Cyanofriscosa.
Frontside

Frontside with backlightning.

P.Zapotecorum.
Frontside, look how fluffy it is compared to the ritzomorphic friscosa.

I just wanted to share some pics of agar.
Im quite new to agar so advice is welcome.

And yes, i need to cut my fingernails.

Isn't bohemica a synonym for serbica?

I have that on agar....

Yes,
it's called P. serbica var. bohemica

P. ovoideocystidiata

thanks stonesun. i noticed on your ovoid plates ,there is those light brown spots? is that normal ? thats what i wanted to see, because my plate has them too.

your P bohemica look nice, my 2 plates have germinated but the mycelium is not very rhizomorphic yet. its quite cottony atm. but its only a week and a bit old and also my very first attemp at agar so we'll see.

That P. ovoideocystidiata mycelium looks very beautiful and nice.
If everything goes as planned i will get a print of these ones soon.
But it's a wild print (as most P. ovoideocystidiata i guess) so some agarwork is going to be required.

Looks like mold, Trichophyton or Microsporum.

Are you shure?
It is a bad picture but my Azuremycelium kind of looks like that.

I dont think my Azure mycelium above is mold but im not 100% shure as i havn't grown any fruits yet.

Thats the problem its suppose to be cubensis mycelium, this on the plate is growing and showing good growth but it doesn't help if its a contam. in the mean time I did a transfer of this, I'll post the pics if growth starts spreading

Yes.  It's normal (at least in my experience so far).  I try to isolate away from the brown though just incase.  You will also get rings of blue.  I don't have any pictures at the moment but when I can I will show an update.

in the meantime.....

Ovoid on agar....

The picture is fuzzy, so it's hard to be sure of anything. But the radial folding is characteristic of certain molds, and not mushrooms.
