why are modern movies so bad?

i think i've seen maybe 5 movies in the last 15 years that i'd consider re-watching.

all blockbuster movies (avengers, transformers, spiderman) are complete garbage
and everything else sucks too

is it because everythings been done already?

oh and for the love of christ, make a movie NOT based on a book.

make a smart movie

and no, inception does't count.

It's because "hollywood" is trying to appeal to a majority of absolute morons.  Most big movies are popular because they have the best effects or the craziest action scenes.  Very few people care about the actual content.  But, I guess if your goal is to make money than make a movie you know the majority will watch.

one thing i noticed is how so many rely on cgi that in a way they are all similar so there's nothing refreshing, same ideas mixed up a bit. Last movie I saw in theaters was Girl with a dragon tattoo and that movie ruined me it was so dull, I have know idea why they remade it other than a business move. But overall its business, number one goal is profit.

this has got to be it
the people i work with say X and Y movies are so good
then I go and watch them
this has happened probably 10 times
and they've all been absolutely terrible. horrible.
a prime example is the avengers. i know somebody who saw it 3 times and said I HAD to see it.
it was one of the worst movies i've ever seen.

:shrug:

i dislike the way movies are headed with focus on new visual technology and this 3d crap. i prefer a black and white movie like 12 angry men compared to bullshit that is made now, because I like plot.

the horseman (australian revenge movie not american horror movie)
brave heart
apocalypto get the gringo
anything with mel gibson
tucker and dale vs evil


not really any new movies that are good at least not that i know of although the new batman looks pretty good. avengers sucked as did transformers. 
try watching breaking bad as well awsome show

i strongly suggest i saw the devil pretty intense movie that will leave you with alot of mixed feeling in a good way

i think a lot of people have always been stupiderrer but now it's becoming embraced/popular.

hell it's not just movies
don't get me started on music
modern music makes me absolutely fucking cringe
but i'm a music snob and I admit it

what's the last good book that was written? i can't even remember. most books i read are from the 50's though :lol:

there are good movies here and there. i thought 50/50 was a pretty decent movie. the problem is nearly everything is a remake,revival,or adaptation now and if somethings good enough to be remade,revived,or adapted chances are you wont do better than the original. there are some diamonds in the rough though

how was boondock saints a rip off at all? i mean i guess i see a little bit of similarities in the "style" thrown into the movies but the concepts of both are completely different

its not the first movie that features 2 guys with guns and time manipulation lol but i suppose. the stories at heart are exact opposites though. boondock saints is about vigilantes doing what they believe to be "gods word" while the fbi and towns people fight over weather they are right or wrong and pulp fiction is about 2 hitmen,a coke head,bruce willis,and african anal rape

I think it'd have to be more of a montage than a coherent work...

To the op, it seems as though all of television has become intolerable, but I suppose the same thing can be said about pop-culture as a whole.
