The voice inside your head

Man, this guy just won't quit. He blabs on all day long, usually pointing out the obvious or planning the day's activities, detail by detail. Meditation helps, but only during the act itself. Afterwards the Voice picks up right where he left off, ranting or raving about... anything and everything. It would be nice to be able to think in concepts rather than words. It seems like a much more efficient mode of thought. Any tips on shutting this guy up?

I have a tip, don't try to shut him up, just observe and listen to yourself without judgement. Be aware of your thoughts but don't try to stop them or change them, just observe your thoughts and actions *without* judging. You will see the positive outcomes of this.

The Chinese call him the monkey in your head or something like that. Have you seen that movie where the guy gets the beetle in his ear and they are trying to pour hot candle wax into it to kill the critter but it doesn't work so he grabs a compass (one of those sharp things for measuring distances on maps) and stabs it deep inside his head and then passes out and wakes up later to declare the beetle dead? Try that.

Yeah, my guy is guilty of making me anxious.
Listening to him will give you obvious insight into the thinking habits you've been cultivating all your life. Which, (at least in my case) may be things that you know you should know better than to be wasting your time on.
My idea in changing these type of habits is to slowly but surely 'turn the tables on yourself.'. Just change habits by easing yourself into what want. For instance, if i think im not picturing sentences visually enough, then the next time i read i will go through each page slowly and visualize each sentence or concept ect. Eventually i will get a little more automatic and it will become ever more subconscious. I imagine it would be VERY hard to completely replace an old pervasive habit but if your persistent enough...
Im basing this on the brain's potential to make things so automatic they become subconscious. I've tied my shoes so many times, for instance, that i barely have to break a thought when im headed out the door in a hurry.

I think you should merge with this guy, so that both of you become the same person. either that or drown him in whiskey.

merging, would be like jesus, or any other thats been "demon possesed" hehe...
I don't get constant talking, i am glad when i do get something. Im correct when i say that it isnt' voices, that its more like thought concepts, correct guys??
I wish i could talk more, or maybe i already do and i don't know it. HOW DOES ONE TRUE KNOW IF IT ISN'T HIMSELF, verses the all knowing guy in your head? How do you know for sure your not making the thought.

i hate the guy man... he stresses me out, sends hardcore anxiety along my way, and makes no sense at all.... "if the quaker is fed the spoon...." i mean what the hell is that shit. i "hear" the weirdest things when i try to sleep too... scares the shit out of me, schitzofrenia... my dad had it and gradmother on his side had it. i dont like the voices, makes me think twice about shrooms... often.... they used to make sense, now theyre just blabbing jibberish or things to make me go AHHHHHHHHH

So for most of you guys, it isn't a voices right, its more like thought concepts sometimes with mind images, correct?

What do you mean it isn't voices? What isn't voices? IN your head?
no, I hear all my thoughts like a voice, it's my voice, and it's what I think.

For me, it's voices and vague generalized images. The images are more often informational than they are actual pictures of things.
I making a post that is related to this: Thinking in Pictures.

I call it "the narrator". It's what the brain's verbal motor does when the gearbox of the mouth is in neutral position. For me it's always an impersonal voice, except when I'm tripping when it sometimes takes on various personalities, with both male and female voices.

Silent meditation (just sitting somewhere quiet for 5 minutes 1-3 times per day and allowing the thoughts to think themselves through while you observe them non-judgementally) shuts the guy up in 1-3 months for most people, no matter how horrid the programming

Tiz called LOGOS, methinks. (As in "in the beginning was the word, and the word was god, and ..." John 1:1 or thereabouts)
Practise the "listen for the bell that's about to chime in 2 seconds" exercise to learn how to make it shut up, if it is overwhelming.
