Great post Alan, I've really been enjoying looking at your finds from Mexico.

That Microstoma floccosum is rediculously cool, and the Pterospora andromedea is really beautiful both in colour and structure.

Awesome stuff, keep it coming. :hatsoff:

Yes.  I checked all the spots and they were only in the lowest elevation one.  They seem to like lower elevations earlier in the season and higher elevations later in the year.

Cactu and I went to camp in a large clearing.  We almost set up camp right on the edge, but Cactu insisted that I drive 50 feet into the woods.  We set up our tents and went to sleep.  In the morning I heard voices - not just one or two, but hundreds.  I went back to sleep.  A couple hours later I got out of the tent and found that the army had deployed in the clearing.  There were a couple hundred soldiers marching back and fourth.  I got my camera and took a picture, but a guy with a machine gun immediately came over and made me delete it.

I went mushroom hunting for a couple hours, and when I got back there were 20 soldiers in my campsite.  Cactu had a fire going and was cooking mushrooms.  We spent a couple hours teaching them which mushrooms were edible.  They gave us some army food (carnitas tacos) and we gave them some cooked mushrooms.

This picture was taken in the middle of 20 soldiers.  They wouldn't let me point the camera at them so I put some KOH on this mushroom and took this pic:
