Yeah, that mycena is shocking. It is shockingly something. My english is not all that great. I am limited in adjectives to "bitchin, cool, and gay."

It is on a stick. I have found this one several times and I try to call it Mycena alphitophora, but then everyone says stuff likr “there are a lot of Mycenas in that section, you can not give it a species name without microscopy.“ So this time I saved it. Smallest herbarium specimen ever.

The first time I saw it I did not know what to think.
A week ago I was camped out in the middle of nowhere and a police truck rolled up and 3 cops with submachine guns jumped out and surrounded me. I was like “Hi, I am from the united states. Que buscas?“ They said “Escucha motosierras?“, making a chainsaw gesture. I told them that I had not, but told the some places that I had observed recent illegal logging. They went off to investigate. I was pretty impresed that they sent cops out into the woods to guard the forest. They must have seen a big pile of mushrooms on my dashboard but did not say anything about that. That night I went into town to get supplies and ran into them again and made friends with them, very cool cops.
A couple days later I heard chainsaws and dropped what I was doing and tried to find the illegal loggers. On the way I saw these mushrooms and was like...fuck trying to find these guys, I am going to take photos of these instead. So the above photos were taken at the expense of not finding the people who were cutting the trees in a national park. I hope it was worth it.

I usually shoot with a 100mm macro lens which pretty much excludes habitat shots. But I also carry a 18-200 zoom lens. Let me know what kind of habitat shots you want to see and I will take them. I plan to be here for at least another week.
Today I explored some crazy backroads that I never would have been able to pass without 4x4. Found the source of a municipal water supply. They basically fenced off a spring so no animals could die nearby and contaminate the water. But they left the gate open and ran out of fence half way through the job. But no one drinks the water in Mexico anyway.

This article (I think) says that 20% of the park was lost to illegal logging by 2000. Shit. How bad is it now?

Agreed, And I can't remember if you are or not, Alan, but if you aren't using a full frame camera I'd go with the 35mm instead. Both are super sharp, even wide open, and give an awesome bokeh.

Its really bad. It is difficult to stand anywhere in the park and look in any direction and not see evidence of illegal logging. There are two types - the guys who cut down smaller trees with hatchets and the guys who use chainsaws to get the big ones. I have heard both but have not had success catching anyone yet. It is fun to keep trying though.
Here is a pic I took this morning that shows the hatchet type.

Morel season in Mexico is September through December. Here they grow at very high elevations in the sides of ravines.
