What is the best strategy for selling stuff online?

I have shitloads of musical equipment, stereo stuff, and electronics, as well as other things, that I want to unload.  What is the easiest and cheapest way to sell online?

I need money for another year of school.  :shrug:

craigslist, Ebay
Maybe take the stuff to a guitarcenter if you are desperate.

Ebay for the name-brand, easy to ship stuff, probably craigslist/free local classifieds for the rest. Unless it's top-end stuff a lot of audio/music gear is hideously expensive to ship relative to its used value.  :undecided:

And what are the fees like on e-bay?  Most of the stuff is top-end and in good condition.

I would say to just sell it on CL or open an ebay account.

I am thinking of buying a bunch of shit at garage sales and reselling them on ebay or restoring them a bit selling them on CL... we'll see

I was going to say shipping costs should be dropping because the cost of gasoline and diesel is dropping so fast, but I don't want to get laughed off the forum.

I just sold my Laney AOR 100 watt head on Ebay. Twas a pain in the ass.
It takes like 20 days for payments to clear for new sellers.

eBay is very good. A couple of pointers I learned from experience to sell stuff quicker:

-Dont use pics of your products taken from google. Take pics yourself.
-Give an accurate and detailed description of the product, dont laze out on that shit
-Answer people's questions

Most of the shipping issues you'll run into are the oversize/overweight fees. Maybe if you're just talking about passive 12" horns you won't have issues, but anything long or heavy is gonna be a pain.

So, is it best to get bidding going, or just put a buy it now price on it, or what?  I got some seriously high level stuff that I am going to be letting go at very reasonable prices.

You will never make as much on eBay as you do with local pickups on CL, especially in metro area.

I can also go on music boards I guess like harmony central and use their classified, since they have a LOT of musicians on there.

i always list my auctions starting at $0.99. it attracts more buyers. and i'm always content with how much money make in the end. :shrug:

eBay is good but the fees are a little high.
eBays cut is 9% off the top and then all payment goes through PayPal and I believe the last time I sold it was around 4%. So right off the top your losing 13 or 14 %. There's a trade off between the power eBay has to advertise to millions of users and the cost to do so.
As far as whether to sell as an auction or buy it now it's a toss up. If you know what u have is highly sought after than I would go for the auction and set a reserve price. On the other hand if it's not as much in demand than going with the buy it now set price may be the way to go but u may be holding on to it for longer.

ive had a lot of success with craigslist. all i did was sell the stuff slightly lower then any of the same products on there and would sell stuff within a couple days
