I'd get the check, cash it, and don't send him shit. Scam the scammer.

This shit reminds me of the Nigerian bullshit email scam...
No-one legitamate is going to just send you (thousands of dollars) more than your asking price (just for the fuck of it), and request the rest be refunded to them. Think about it, that's just horseshit.

if you want to scam him first thing tommorow get a P.O. Box at your local post office so that he cant track you down at your house. then tell him that address and get him to send you the check, cash the check keep it all and keep the car, when the bank finds out the check is a forgery you can claim you have been scammed and hopefully your bank will eat the amount, if not then you have the money to spare. it would also be helpful if you have the money to payback the bank in your account so that you wont have to show that you have all that money in cash if they want the money back. but yeah you migh tjust be able to get away with this.

It's not really a good idea. Fraud is still a serious crime, even if you are merely turning the tables on a con artist. Fraud in the quantity of several thousand dollars could come with an all-expenses-paid vacation in federal rape-me-in-the-ass prison.

yeah your right but if done properly you can get away with it, i guess the first step would have been to not post aobut it on the internet, oh well. but good job being the voice of reason.

Here's how it works people, someone should know this...
The buyer is overseas creates a bogus check which is usually a good fake (takes a bank a week or so to discover it)
So you deposit it in your account, send them back the extra balance and keep the rest for the car.
Well the check comes back bad, you owe your bank for the full amount and someone overseas is laughing at the stupid American they ripped off.
People sit on the internet trying to find people to scam all day, like a full time job. If you can get one-sucker every three months your making decent money.
Anyways FUCK SCAMMERS.
Edit: They usually don't come get the car just rip you for the cash. How nice of them huh?

FYI: Money Orders and even Cashier's Checks can be flagged as stop-payment and it can take your bank quite a while to figure it out after you deposit it.
