Craigs list scammers. Updated HELP ME?
    #5853507 - 07/13/06 12:54 AM (17 years, 6 months ago)

Ever get something like this?

Dear Seller,

My client really wants to buy your vehicle.Get back to me asap if it is still for sale.

Dennis

Then I replied yea its for sale.

Hello,

My client was much impressed with the availability of your car.He can't wait to see the car parked in his garage.Send pics (interior and exterior) if any for my client's veiwing.

However,he would like to know your last price for onward transaction immediately.
Please permit me to ask few things about the condition of the car. How many mileage is on it presently? Any mechanical fault? Any stolen record? Why do you want to sell it? What of the engine? And please your firm price is required. Your early response will be highly apprieciated.
Have a wonderful day.

Best regards,

Dennis

Then I replied and havent gotten the next one yet.

So how do these scam things work anyway. I am going alone with it but won't hand shit over till cash is in my hand.

I would ALWAYS bring at least one friend.

If it's just you and him inside of the car, and you perhaps let him take a test drive, it's not too hard for him to procure a free car.

ive heard of scams like this, next hes going to suggest you should use an escrow service. one thing about test drive, never let them take the car on a test drive without you in it, then legally you cant report it stolen because you gave him the keys and permission, happened to a friend of mine.

Escrow services tend to be a good idea in certain situations, or so I am told.

Cash up-front is best, of course.

It's also possible to get financing through a bank, even with private person-to-person sales.

they dont use a real escrow service, they design a site to look like an escrow service.

On some sex ads (hooray for going against principles) I've gotten responses, none of them sounding like scammers at all, but when I reply, I don't get a response

Not really your situation, but yah

I listed my computer for sale on Craigslist just last night and got an e-mail this morning sounding really weird:

"Hello seller,
am interested in buying the item as you have rightly diplaid it forsale on craigslist.i want to know may be the item is still in good working condition and still has original packaging.please get back to me as soon as possible."

I'm not sure whether this person is just Asian, or if I should be concerned that it sounds like a scam?

Sounds very suspicious. It is vague in a form-letter sort of way.

Just tell him your price and insist on cash. His next response should give you more clues. If you meet him, bring backup. bring a friend with you for the test drive and maybe another couple following you.

Keep us posted.

I just got this e-mail back from the lady that I just quoted:

"Hello ,
Thanks for the response, since the item is still in good condition,i am willing to offer $380 for the item... ( Custom computer: AMD 2000+, 20GB + 30GB HD, 256MB DDR, GeForce 4 ) and i will be glad by making my payment through United StatesPostal Service (USPS),so all i will just need from you now inorder to proceed with my payment is your full name and your address so i can quickly start the payment processing through USPS since their office is just a few blocks to my working place..and as soon as the payment has been approved with the USPS,i will send you thePre-paid shipping documents which you will print out and paste on the package box because am sending the package to my nephew in oversea and i will also send you my FedEx account number with-which you will tender at the FedEx Kinko's before droping the package off at the place so that all the shipping and handling bills will be charge on my account...ok?. so pls kindly let me know if there is a FedEx location around you there. Thanks and hope to hear back from you asap. Thanks "

This sounds very suspicious. But I got an offer from someone who can come and pick it up and has cash so I'm letting him have it.

Hello,

My client has finally accepted your price,he hopes the engine is serviced and oil changed too .He can't wait to see the car parked in his garage.

However,my client made out a certified cashier's check of ($10500) before he travelled to Japan on a business trip, for a previous car and its shipment charges etc,but it was unfortunately sold. The amount on the check he deposited for the car is bigger than what should be paid to you now, so the check is now meant for the total
expenses which includes the purchase of your car,the pick up of the car from its present location and the shipping charges/other necessary shipping arrangements. However he has instructed us to carry on with this transaction. So you're required to deduct the cost of your car ($4000) and send the balance of ($6500) to my client via western union money transfer to enable him offsett shipping charges/arrangements.

Once the transaction is concluded,my agent will be coming for the pick up of the car from its present location, on an open vehicle and then drive to a pre-paid shipper for shipment and also conclude other necessary shipping arrangements. So you don't have to bother yourself about the pick up and shipping arrangements, while title papers and other necessary documents will be sent by you via fedex courier to my customer.

Please confirm this and provide name, address and phone number for check payment to be delivered to you via fedex courier .
Thanks and God bless,

Regards,

Dennis

Fuck yah, someone responded and it's quite legitimate, but since neither of us will host we'll probably never fuck so it doesn't matter anyway FUCK FUCK FUCK

But about your letter: Something about the writing style seems overly formal, and it's probably me being paranoid, but the God bless at the end seems fishy to me

It always sounds fishy when they need you to cash a check and send them the balance after you are paid. They can just as easily cash that check themselves at whatever bank they got it at and get a new one for the exact amount you are asking for. I'd be very wary of this if I were you.

Yes, that's definitely a scam. The "cashiers check" will be a forgery, and by the time your bank finds out, he'll be gone with your $6500.

This is a scam I have heard of before.

You send him the money, and you wind up being given a check that is no good.

He then takes the money you gave him as well as your car, and you're fucked.

Send him an e-mail telling him this:

"If I catch you trying to scam me I'm going to hunt you down, cut your limbs off, and force you to eat them."
