Predictability
    #1643235 - 06/18/03 11:43 PM (20 years, 9 months ago)

Several shroomerites have "accused" me of being predictable as if that were a bad thing. Should I flip-flop on my views and pop out of the bushes willy-nilly like a jack-in-the box from day to day? Is not predictability a sign of stability and internal consistency as far as a viewpoint is concerned?

of course not, consistency is requisite for healthy thinking...

I suspect that people find you predictably obstinate, not merely consistent.

Your replies may be predictable in their aim (due to constantly having to address the same old shit), but the topics you start are not predictable.

I disagree man. Consistency = dullness & boredom = not happy or healthy. We need to be spontaneous, be random, do whatever! Fuck that "stability" bullshit... Put some spice in your life! Mixing things up a little, I think, is the real way to keep your mind healthy and active.

I'm not talking about that, I too agree with the whole 'live right now' credo, I'm talking about thinking philosophically; the positions you take in arguments. It's good (or interesting...) to make your world view as connected and co-existing as possible. there can be no connection nor co-existing if there isn't consistency between your various opinions and beliefs.

I disagree with this because I agree with the aforementioned 'live right now' credo. I have reason to suspect that enlightenment feels very much like a "willy nilly...jack in the box".

swami... just keep the 'everything I know might be a lie' option open too. there seem to be a great deal of clues that support this option.

Swami, I don't think you're predictable in a bad way.
Predictability can mean both trustworthiness and redundancy. Predictable in a negative sense would be if you could change all your posts to "You know what I think about that", and everyone would still know what your exact argument was.

As long as you can cast aside everything that you do know and everything that you think you know to hear an argument openly... and attempt to view the poster's perspective on the subject, then your response (whether or not it's still the same truths you had had before you started) is perfect!

Swami, you're wonderfully consistent.

Yup. Every single time someone brings up the "We use only 10% of our brain myth," I will have the same answer. Would I be more loved and enlightened and balanced if I meandered about?

u mean like if u suddendly turned evangelical on us and started
espousing blind faith ?
hehe... I doubt u could make it believable tho, I put
up a fascade of "belief in the Good Lord"
every now and then while talking to my mom,
but I can never pull it off without becoming obviously
cynical

Short-term memory loss? Dog used you computer and you did not write that?

I thought you KNEW what my exact argument would be about ANY subject. Are you now making a public retraction?

He blatently said that "IF" you could simply respond to a message with:

"You know what I think about that"

...THEN your predictability would be lame. But he certainly did not suggest such a reality is true.

For somone who hates pointless threads, you sure do make enough of them.

*DODGE ALERT*

Please show the line from a post where I said that I hate pointless threads.

Note: Here is a typical case of reading what was not written. Will Psilo be able to find such a quote or is this a mere hallucination? Go to Window #3 to place your bets on the "Swami Hates Pointless Threads Challenge". Current odds are 3/2 in the Swam's favor."
