Sterilization/substrate question...
    #1640993 - 06/18/03 12:34 AM (13 years, 5 months ago)

is 10psi sufficient for substrate sterilization? this (http://www.shroomery.org/images/23526/rocker1.jpg) is the cooker h. got which operates at a steady 10psi... but he read that 15psi was required for temperature reasons. in theory it shouldn't be a problem seeing how sterilization is possible in a common pot but he just want to make sure because he doesn't want his first attempts at cultivation to become tainted with the discouragement and disappointment of contamination.

h. was also curious as to whether vermiculite can be replaced with perlite as a substrate moisturizer as he can't seem to find vermiculite anywhere around his area.

thanks, all.

Perlite doesn't do very well as substrate ingredient. I strongly advise you use vermiculite. Order it online if need be (MushMush carries a coarse and a fine type, check them out on the sponsors page).
Use perlite as a humidificator in your terrarium.
