    #420394 - 10/10/01 12:46 AM (22 years, 11 months ago)

i was just wondering, when innoculating the substrate (brf and verm in hlafpint jars), i was told to put my oven at its lowest temp and pull out one of the trays and set my jars on it for innoc. wudnt this much heat kill the spores? sorry if this is cunfusing, im a little "out of it" right now

...u dont sterilize the jar when the spores are in it, you sterlize it before u put the spores in...so its sterile
u put the substrate in, seal it, boil it or whatever, cool it for awhile, than u inject the spores
you should read over the instructions carefully

dude the reson for using the oven is so that the heat rises and so do all the small bacteria and particles stopping them from dropping into your jar while u innoculate. since you have the tray pulled out and your jars set on it the heat will be very little, and will not damage your spores!
