outdoor patch question

Ok, I have this friend that wants to grow some spawn for an outdoor patch. This would be in an area with some nice shade and plenty of decaying leaves, he would probably also add some compost, grass, and manure to fortify the patch. Heres the problem, he doesn't exactly live on the gulf coast. He lives in new england, now, during the summer he won't see any problem with fruiting as it gets quite warm here. Would the patch survive a new england winter to fruit again when it gets warm? Or would he have to prep another patch the next summer? Do any of you guys think that spores should be able to germinate and establish patches on there own? The area is pretty rich with decaying plant matter.

If you intend to grow some cubensis strain in that patch, the mycelium will most probably die this winter. If you want your patch to keep alive even after a harsh winter, grow a species that is frost-resistent, such as the species found here .

It depends on the specie. I wouldn't try anything like P. Cubensis if you have a very cold winter. Maybe something like P. Azures or P. Cyans will suit you best. You've got to learn how to work with wood substrates though.

almost forgot, am I correct in assuming that any spores from these mushrooms would be able to colonize woodchips on their own?

The spores of woodloving species will colonize the woodchips on their own, without any other additions. It will take a bit longer that ps. cubensis colonizing a BRF cake though, but I assume you're not in a hurry

call me Johnny Mushroom spore. I'm gonna get some pan subs too, they'll grow here fine. I have a large grass pile that is just begging to be inocculated.

I'm Johnny poppy seed and jhonny cannabis seed too, you all should do that. (well not sure how that's working, but if I ever come across a bud seed, I always would toss it in a place where it could grow.)

I read a story on yahoo news where a farmer found cannabis growing in his hay, apparently the guy he got it from grew and some got mixed up with the hay he was harvesting. *good idea*

well, of course you'd plant it on public land, never on or near someone's property

get some bales of hay, mix some bagseeds in there, and dump it/leave it on some abandoned, unnattented lot in the middle of the city, or park
free weed for the masses!

nice, yeah that's the idea. Also like on medians and feilds and woody areas. It's not so much growng actual bud or opium (well for azures it would be, definitly won't tell anyone or I'd find 500 people combing every wood chip in town ) The idea is that you'd have weed and poppies all over the place. I gusse it won't hurt if some poeple harvest some O. It would be hard to harvest buds, you wouldn't know when to do it. It would suck if a male plant runined a whole outdoor crop , oh well it's a wicked idea. I like the hay thing, you can get subs amd bud to grow.
