Moe's outdoor tek question

Alright, i tried out Moe's with 4 or 5 pf cakes using the pf classic strain. I did everything just about right and it's been 4 weeks now, not givin up hope just yet tho. Well its' in the back yard in the garden so i put a little bit of some woodchips used for garden decorations on top of it to not make it that noticable. Since there aren't any nutrients in those decoration woodchips i don't think the mycelium will colonize on it. so my question is, should i remove all the woodchips cuz they might block the sunlight which is hte reason they aren't fruiting yet, or do the woodchips not matter at all in the process so i shouldn't risk messin with it. thanx

thanx for the reply, well the only thing i have is composted manure, im not sure which category it fits into but will that work too?
