I am with you on that one I cant see it making a diferance which way they are birthed. Mushrooms are phototrophic and while allowing the mycelum to colonize the substrate they should be in the dark. All the tecks I have read have them birthed upside down (there is a posibility that I read these wrong I guess). I would like to see some other comments on this though.

My cakes are incubated for about 2 weeks with the lids facing up. After 2 weeks I remove the tape and put the lids down.

When I birth I keep the part of the cake that was near the lids facing down.

50% of the cakes fruit from sides/top, while other 50% fruit from the bottom.

My cakes site on a wire mesh above the perlight, so even the ones fruiting from the bottom find their way to the light..

I also am begining to believe that gravity plays a part somehow, but have done no conclusive testing yet. I wonder If I could get a terrarium experiment on board a space shuttle flight? I wonder what it would be like to trip in zero G?
