Digging a basement in your basement?

Is it possible to dig a basement in your basement? Like, you'd dig your basement 15 feet down, then add a second foor.

Problems I see:

- Ground shifting
- Lower level flooding
- No toilets because you'd be level with the septic

Still, I think it might be cool to do part of the basement like that. Like, maybe have a mushroom room under an office.

i always constantly think of a way to do this because i think it would be kick ass.. for flooding tho, all you would need to do is angle the floor into one corner and have a sub pump drain the excess water out.. but that doesnt solve the problems of doing it yourself.. how would you even dig that.. how would you keep it from collapsing in on its self and how would you be sure not to hit any other type of lines.. gas, plumbing ect..

It can be done... but just be motivated because it is a ridiculously large amount of work.  and it is the kind of thing that is easy to half-do and then leave it... permanently decreasing the value of your home.
