This is a good question.  Now that intel is making processors so fucking fast that most people don't need them, does the operating system matter as much now?

Before, people would say that the MAC system was faster than windows--like it was better suited for the architecture of the micro-processor.  But now, the speed of the processor, and ram access, is so high that I dont know if it makes a difference.

The OS doesn't matter at all.  Mac OS can run like 3 programs, so windows is and shall always be thy best.

In 10 years one of the two might not even be around anymore.

I used to work with macs doing video editing and DVD authoring.

Most of the people I worked with agree that until apple started using the Intel processor their computers were noticeably better. However now that they are using stock parts that you would find in any PC the performance is comparable while the price is outrageous.

In 2008 I bought and Imac for work, and it cost more than $3000.

This year I bought an i7 2600k with an SSD, GTX 570, and other high end parts for about  $1400.

With PC you get what you pay for. With mac you get what you pay for plus a $1000 white plastic/aluminum case.

I like playing games, so mac is out.

And given a choice between walled garden, or evil semi open system, I'll go with the semi open system anyday. Lots more x86 machines running windows than x86 machines running mac, lots more software for windows.

Mac: Hey PC what are you doing?
PC: Playing video games.
Mac: oh yeah, what games are you playing?
PC: Whichever ones I want.........

MAC....still doesn't do games.

Yeah, that's the main reason I don't use mac OS. I build gaming PCs and I'm big into gaming.

The one thing that mac's have over pc imo is that they continuosuly update your system with free antivirus software, whereas you have to pay for it with a pc. I never get pop-ups, never have a laggy computer, none of that stuff I would get after a year or two of use with a pc.

One thing that bugs me...

You have to pay even more money to get "apple care." Luckily most things can be resolved by a simple google search though

yeah I like playing games that aren't UT2004 or multiwinia. I do enjoy linux, probably in the same way a masochist enjoys ballbusting.

I tried to post this the other day but the forums are really lagging like a bitch:

Currently any new mac you buy on the market is equipped with an Intel core, Xeons usually.  Now you can build yourself a wonderful PC that will be just as good, if not better than any mac on the market (and any PC for that matter), you just have to take the effort and spend the money, though if you're building a custom top of the line PC it'll probably be more economical than forking out money for a brand name.  My watercooled PC has been able to play new top of the line FPS/strategy etc games for 4 years now, I've been able to run top end autocad and 3d design programs on it, etc.

If you want to build a PC that's better than a mac, it's invariably easy to do.

I have 2 macs, both of them have Windows 7 on them so I can dual boot and play Windows games.

Why would you waste the money wakeboardrB?  Why bother even having a dualboot if you're going to have two computers, why not just one mac and for half the price just as powerful if not more powerful PC?

I have a free anti virus, "Microsoft Security Essentials". Works pretty well, even updates it self.
The thing with the laggy computer, it is generally the users fault. What are pop-ups?
I don't macs or the OS, I've been around them for decades, I am just not rich enough to spend all that extra money to get less bang for the buck, and i do prefer to upgrade my own stuff.

Agreed, if you're getting a laggy PC (or mac, and I've seen plenty of virus and adware riddled macs) it's because you don't know how to browse the internet and you're opening random shit like a noob. ex: "OH CRAP THIS AD SAYS I WON A MILLION DOLLARS!" *click*.

90% of the time my antivirus and adware software is disabled, as I don't really need it. Common sense can keep your computer cleaner than antivirus.
