I thought i'd make a thread concerning staying out of jail this summer. In a couple days the Deads summer tour starts. :grin:

It looks like there's a lot of new people heading to these shows and thats fantastic! The more good energy the better. :laugh:

It's a very euphoric feeling when you come together with thousands of people and experiance the psychedelic utopia of the Grateful Dead. Nothin's better than a mass of people that are celebrating music, love ,and complete absolute freedom.
You need to remember that there are wolves amoung you.
The amount of cops around Dead shows is staggering. There's 3 different kinds.
1. uniformed local and state cops
2.undercover local and state cops
3. the DEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

.1 Uniformed cops are not anything new to anybody. Anyone who's ever been pulled over knows how these guys opperate. They might be manning roadblocks or doing crowd control. Keep you eye's out for them and you'll be fine.

2. State and local undercover cops will be there trying to bust people. They'll be walking arounds in a tye dye or other t-shirt trying to blend in, usually with there walki talki in there back pocket. There pretty easy to spot once your around them.
They want to make arrest's and it doesn't matter for what. They'll try to buy any drugs around. They don't go for big fish they go for any fish. They want to get a high arrest quota, so they can high five each other back at the station.

3. DEA- This is were the problem is folks. There is a large DEA presence around the Dead and the family. Anyone of you that toured in the 80s or 90's know what i'm taliking about. During 89-95 the DEA arrested a massive amount of people. They are a very ,very powerful force. They are intelligent, sophisticated, well funded and highly motivated. They have all the latest toy''s and gear that money can buy. If they bust you they can prosecute you in federal court and send you to a federal prison with no parole.
They are usually busy going after the larger distributer's, but will bust anyone especially if they think they can get any information from them. During the years 89-95 there was a unit that did nothing but follow the Dead. They'd be at every show watching every move. These guy's use the same survailance gear as the FBI. It's a constant cat and mouse game with these fuckers. I'm sure there going to be out in force this tour. There full of knowlege on our culture and how the acid moves. If you have a large amount of any drug be very carefull who you sell to. I have seen fucking DEA agent's with dreadlocks that get stoned.
They love being asigned to the Dead. We don't carry gun's like columbian drug lords and we don't fight back. It's safe hunting for them. There usually wanting to buy as much of an amount of a drug as they can,especially LSD. There goal is to get the labs. So they watch everybody and hope to see the chain to the top. If they can't they just bust everybody they can hope to get info.
Watch out for these guy's there heartless and very effective. :confused:

This doesn't really concern safety ,but is important. If your going to spend money at the shows be sure to try to buy from the deadheads. Alot of these folks make there living on the road by being vendors. Everybody's got to make some money somehow on tour. You can't survive long otherwise unless your a drainbow.
So if your going to buy a water or some food or a shirt, then buy it off of somebody touring. This gives these wonderful, kind people a chance to get from show to show. If you buy from deadheads and not the licensed venue venders, you support some brothers and sister's and save money too. :grin:

Nothing like a veggie hummus pita or what ever after the show. :grin:

I hope you all have a great experiance at the shows. It can be trully magical when we all connect through the power of music. Add LSD into that and it turns cosmic. As they say"there's nothing like a Grateful Dead concert".
