Whole Milk Works!
    #16134605 -

I'm a skinny guy.  Too skinny.  I'm 150lb @ 6'3".

I've always worked out, kept active, and the such.  Regardless of how much I ate or how much I worked out, I could never put on any weight.  There were times where I didn't even care if I put on muscle mass or fatty mass, I just wanted to get bigger.  Even a full unhealthy diet of fast food, junk food, chocolates, etc. didn't do the trick.

I've always seen people recommend whole milk.  I've never gone with it before as the amount of fat/saturated fat sounds disgusting and really put me off.

However, I've recently picked up on it.  I haven't yet increased my workout routine (or changed my diet other than the milk) and I have noticed gains.  It's as if my muscles before weren't getting what they needed in order to grow and somehow this milk provided that.

I've been drinking it for about ~3 months now.  The gains aren't ridiculously huge, obviously, but surely noticeable.  I'm very excited for what's to come.  I will be upping my workout routine in the next week or two as well as increasing the amount of milk I consume.

I've been drinking a gallon anywhere from 3-5 days.  I'm not sure I'll be able to stomach upping it considering how rich it is and congested it seems to make me.  I do feel gross after having drank it, but once it's metabolized I feel great.

Although i am more fairly proportioned than you (6', 180lbs) I also have found whole milk to be the missing link regarding gains.

I also don't drink copious amounts - probably a gallon every 5 or 6 days. Maybe a glass after work, and a cup with some protein powder in it after a bike ride/run or after workouts...

While it is very modest gains, it is helping me fill out and more importantly recover quickly. It is as if my muscles are "fuller" and denser than they've ever been, while doing less lifting.

From what i've read though, for skinny guys like you, it's usually recommended that you drink the better part of a gallon per day though!

Good to hear!

and :puke:.  I'm not sure if I could handle a even half gallon in a day.  Maybe I will get used to it in time.

Yeah, "milk and squats routine" if your looking to read about it. However, it's really outdated. Drinking that much milk is NOT healthy...

However, it will help you put on size, just keep the copious milk consumption to a limited time frame!

Damn I am a huge milk drinker and only drink whole milk. For the most part I only drink milk and coffee. I couldn't imagine going without my milk, maybe it's just the Wisconsin in me  But anyways if whole milk gives you the gains you want, wouldn't cheese do better?

Possibly!

There's no way I could eat the same amount of cheese as I need to be drinking in milk.  I just can't stomach super-rich things.  My diet consists mostly of vegetables and grains with a little meat/eggs.

I really don't think so.

I don't understand all of it, but the fat/protein/carb/high calorie content is one of the main reasons.  The other is due to the different types of proteins.

According to the nutritional websites I  just looked at, almond milk doesn't have as many calories, very little fat, and almost no carbs/protein.  This would make almond milk a very poor choice.

There's your problem right there. Eat more meat.

:whathesaid:

Thats what I was going to say. That sucks you can't really stomach rich foods. Has it always been like that for you or since you started eating very little meat?

I used to eat meat normally up until my second year of college.  Even back then I wasn't putting on any mass.

I had more of a tolerance for rich foods back then but still couldn't down the better half of a gallon of milk in a day.  Maybe a tub of Ben & Jerry's, which I can't do these days.

I'm preparing myself a new dietary plan now to accommodate for mass gains.  I hope to stick with it, along with my new workout plan, through all of the summer months.

My goal is to be 170-185lbs within two years.

You should try eating bacon grilled cheese sandwiches. They are tasty and fattening. You should also try to eat a lot of grains. According to the Atkins thing, that's what causes people to gain the most weight, plus potatoes and bread are yummy.

If all else fails, adopt a sedentary lifestyle where you lay in bed all day and masturbate. It gets you fat quick.

uh perhaps a bit more expenisve but a protein shake along with the milk will go a long way....if your serious about lifting a protein shake is a must.

hey man. so the vegan thing wasn't working for you? right on, that's cool

but what i really wanted to chime in to say man is that i'm 6'3 as well and maybe 165-170lb at the most. i wouldn't even care if i lost more (assuming i still feel healthy.) i have muscle as well. but what i wanted to add even more is that at a younger age (19) i was often right around 150lb and i was TOTALLY HEALTHY! not to mention, i just feel so much better overall being lighter... i've been both light and fat and i prefer being skinny. i honestly think it's just my body's natural size because i always gravitate towards a light weight.

question: WHY do you want to put on weight? i bulked up once, drank a ton of milk and ate my face off and in the end, i totally regretted it man  for what it's worth

good luck and good health in whatever you do man

I very much enjoyed veganism.  There's no doubt I will go back to it once I can handle the nutrition intake a bit better.  There is an entire body-building website devoted to vegans.  The problem is I don't have the money or level of commitment to invest at this point in my life being a college student.

I've never weighed more than I currently do.  I'm glad that you've found a weight that you are happy with!  I would definitely be content at 165, as well.. as that's +15 pounds my current weight.  I would like to put on more muscle than that though.

There are quite a few reasons for wanting to put on weight:

The top priority is definitely strength.  I'm mostly muscle at this point (you can't be that light and have much fat at my height) but I feel it isn't enough.  When I was shorter I weighed the same as I do now and was much stronger.  I often did parkour runs, muay thai, and similar fun stuff that required strength and endurance.  Some of that is to blame on my profession (web developer) as I sit on my ass for hours on end but it's mostly because I've just been a lazy asshole.

Lifting to gain will also get me in better overall shape which I definitely need.  My level of health now is nowhere near what it used to be.  I've been slacking since my high school days.  I smoked for about 2 years, did a lot of crazy drugs, drank all the time, etc.  Changing my eating habits helped me feel quite a bit healthier but I still have a long ways to go.

I enjoy working out quite a bit.  It may not seem that way as I rarely ever do it more than an hour every other day (and am not advancing) but I do love it.  I've always been restricted to lifting the same weights in my house or finding an adventure outside.  The university I'm in now has a full gym that I am free to use at most hours of the day.

I need a new hobby to throw some time into.  I recently got broken up with and it really destroyed me emotionally.  I'm slowly on the up rise but I haven't found much to fill those large gaps of time with.  I always have work to do or art to make, but often times I just want to let my mind relax.

And finally, the physique is also a plus.  I've always been super skinny without much definition.

Thanks for the good wishes, owls!  I also wish you the best.

:sunny:
