N. Michigan morels (update 5/9)

went for a little easter stroll through one of my morel spots. not expecting to find anything because its been pretty dry and chilly. i just happen to find one tiny black morel and im guessing a badly decomposed/eatin gyromitra species. with a good warm rain the morels should really start poppin! i love this time of year :heart:

Nice find! Took a walk myself and didn't find anything except for frost burnt Gyromitras...Same here, dry and chilly. We need rain.

Nice. They are about done here in Central Illinois. Last week I found some big yellows. Seems like the season was short and way early.

the morel season in northern michigan is heating up. if we would just get a substantial rain, it'll be in full force. i would have more pics but my camera died. found about 30 all together today.

awesome... i found these in nebraska, with all that rain, i went out and looked on high river hills under cottonwood trees on sun, and seen 1000's of pins... to bad i flew back to fl on sun...

currently visiting relatives in MI, further south though. right around Flint/Grand Blanc area. Went for a hike yesterday near Saginaw and found one BIG yellow morel (i'll post a pic later, haven't loaded them onto computer yet, bout the size of my hand with fingers extended), and was hoping for more, but no luck. I'm used to hunting in the PNW, and finding this environment very different.... I know well the rules, I'm not asking for picking spots or anything, just looking for general tips/tricks/pointers on what kind of stuff to look for. i know there were a lot of maples as well as 2 other types of trees in the area i was in, but i don't know them to identify. Can identify very little of the more ground cover type plants either (like i said, very different environment than what i'm used to).

try looking around old/dying elms, there always seem to be whites growing around them in my area.
also ash trees are a good place to look for blacks.
