I'd ignore it. Don't even bother looking at it. Walk like I own the joint. It confuses them.

if you still have your hands and face, grab both of its front legs and pull them apart. (a friend told me this works, I have not personally confirmed)

I once got charged by a neighbor's vicious boxer when I was a teenager. It was coming full force and not just giving me a warning.
Luckily I was on my way home from the batting cages and instinct kicked in. I hit it across the face with my softball bat. It hit the ground and I think was knocked unconscious for a few seconds, then got up and ran away.

So, you could also try carrying a metal bat around.

so can you avoid being attacked by standing your ground and not being scared?

Well first, I wouldn't make the first move. I'd wait for him, and watch his movements. My first priority is to make sure he doesn't get my neck, anything else is fair game for him to attack. I'd try my best to get around him and get on his back, wrap my legs around him and choke him out.

If I can't grasp that, I'll resort to straight out bashing his nose/shoving my hand down his throat and any other violent method (only if desperate).

My biggest plan would be to force it to submit and knock it unconscious and if I can't do that well, sorry pup.... you attacked me, not the other way round.. I'd sadly take its life.

Would never enjoy hurting an animal though. Even if it is violent.

yea it seems like people freak out and go into submission mode .. fuck that ill fight the fucker till death if i have to. back when i had the violent dog a big tall skinny black dude came into my house thinking the dog was locked up. the dog charged full force and attacked he quickly managed to kick the dog so hard it slid for about 5 yards .. it did nothing but piss the dog more.. poor kid was in tears when it was all set and done. if u went into my house friend or not you were gonna get butt raped by the beast.

I've a number of times dogs would attack others but leave me be.

One that springs to mind right away was when I had to drop off this work piece at a cattle rancher's place. The house was surrounded by a chainlink fence, while the rest of the farm was seperate. In the yard were two large dogs, I am thinking australian cattle dogs. Anyway, the people I was with refused to enter. I just shrugged, opened the gate and walked to the front door. The dogs ran around me, barking and such, but I didn't even look at them. I didn't get an answer from the door, so I left the yard then walked to the back where the woman was exiting one of the barns. I told her who I was and said I knocked on her front door. Before I could finish, she was kind of surprised and asked me "You actually got to the front door?"

I shrugged it off like it was no big deal, but the whole time she was a bit annoyed by that.

I have an uncle with a german shepherd that was a former guard dog, his sone
brought it back with him from germany, I was standing too close to the fence
one day and the dog cleared the fence and managed to grab my shoulder, I
wasnt expecting it at all, the dog never barked or growled, anyway I wrapped
one arm around the dog's neck, another one barred against it's throat and did
a hip toss and took the dog to the ground, it let go and I just distanced
myself from the teeth and did my best to keep it pinned so it couldnt get me
the dog's teeth didnt make it through the leather coat but it had a hell of a
bite, my  shoulder hurt for a few days.

a charging dog is a different critter, most will jump and try to grab an
appendage, it makes them more vulnerable than you, as Rod Farva said,
bringing a hand down on it's snout only I wouldnt be trying to get my fingers
in the danger zone. when it jumps, try and sidestep and use a hammer fist on
the dog's snout, head or neck, any place you happen to land it and when it
hits the ground either kick the fuck out of it or stomp it as hard as you can

if it manages to get a bite, try ramming your arm or what ever as far into
it's mouth as possible and try to immobilize the head, once a dog has a
bite it's going to try and shake which will cause huge amounts of damage,
if it does manage to bite you you're going to get hurt, the objective at
that point it to minimize the damage as much as possible. obviously this
shit isnt as effective for older people, timid people or those that dont
think fast on their feet, the best thing to do is if you feel there's a
likelihood of being attacked, carry a sturdy stick

I stopped reading after a couple posts. Here's why:  I'm a much bigger animal than a pit bull. I'm not gonna plan on what to do if a pitbull attacks me, because it probably wouldn't work out with too much thought put into it. I would just kill the fucking dog.

Best thing to do is go ahead and give it your arm and go for a choke. You could try to break a limb but then the dogs gonna let go of one arm and bite the other. I've heard people say to take your shirt off and wrap it around your arm. But who has time for that in a fight with a dog?

Give it your arm, take it to the ground, RNC. It's gonna kick and scratch like a motherfucker, but it's better than getting bit twice. so just crank down till he stops kicking and goes limp.

you'll find it damn near impossible to choke out a dog or break it's neck, a
rear naked choke wont work when it has a mouth full of your arm from the front

Ok, assuming the dog is ordered to attack, I am going to say a switf kick to the happy sacks will help. Just gotta have that fortitude to dealing with the thing ripping your arm off while you do so..

I've had the misfortune of being the one responsible for splitting up two fighting bulldogs, one was my pit bull.  In the snapping and struggling, I got bitten only briefly but it felt like being popped with a baseball bat in that particular place (bony part of my wrist).  Teeth sunk to the meat pretty quick, nice little puncture.  The dog immediately let go when she realized she got me (it was the other dog, not mine, both are incredibly sweet toward people) so I can only imagine what one would do if it were TRYING to harm you.  I've since learned not to intervene so directly.  (dousing them in the face with water is usually adequate to stun them long enough to pull them away from each other)

I would not even begin to attempt to engage an adult pit bull directly.  All this talk of physically dispatching one is pipe dreaming nonsense for most people.  You stand a good chance of getting mauled or worse if you are a stranger to the dog, among many other reasons.  Any dog, for that matter.  Pits are just streamlined to fuck you up more than many other breeds.

Your best bet is to have some kind of treat to offer up in hopes that it will suffice, or a gun, or some kind of large blunt object and quick wits.

Assuming you're unarmed? If it's going to bite you anyway, why not shove your arm into it's mouth and defeat it from the inside. If the dog is small enough and your arm long enough maybe you can spit roast it on your arm.

when i was about 7 or 8 my neighbors dog was acting weird to me that day. i felt bad vibes and thought this could be transmited to the dog as fear. i had 2 choices run for my life or try and jump over a fence that was next to me. i climbed the dog bit be in the ankle and also in my butt. the best part is when i got home my dad beat my ass for gettin bittin ... anyways the dog got killed by a car on the same day.

no, pits are tenacious, that's their advantage over many breeds, there's
other dogs more suited as attack dogs but few keep going back regardless
of injuries they may sustain

a story of a king from Silla (old korea) was attacked by a tiger when he
was young, had he tried to pull his arm from the tiger's mouth he would have
lost his life, instead with the small knife he had he shoved his arm into the
tiger's mouth and killed it by cutting it's throat from the inside

I'd stand my ground, unzip my hoodie slip it off and try to get it wrapped around its head  when it lunges, then I'd kill that motherfucker. If it manages to bite me Its eyes are getting gouged out then its getting fuckin strangled.
