P. ostreatus and A. bisporus "Crimini" on agar
    #1600479 - 06/02/03 03:01 AM (20 years, 8 months ago)

Cloned from supermarket 10 days ago on potato water-oatmeal-sucrose agar. Notice how the A. bisporus is altering the color of agar. This is NOT bacterial contamination.

That ostreatus is quite quick. Good job! I also noticed altering of the agar color in some cultures. Are you sure that's OK?

The myc and the agar surface looks healthy.
Currently I don't have A. bisporus but I saw this before with a different species - Polyporus tuberaster - and it dissapeared over time!

Yeah, I have found that following species alter the color of the agar that I use which is a Potato Dextrose Agar Oatmeal agar (with a little peptone and Yeast extract): A. campestris, Macrolepiota rhacodes, Coprinus comatus (really darkens the oatmeal peices), Phellinus ignarius, and Fomes fometopsis.

C. Comatus is really bad in that aspect. It trips me out to look at the underside of the agar.

I used to get a lot of sabauraud's agar [surplus] and it darkened with almost everything I grew on it.  Identical inoculations onto PDA did not do it as much.
Playing around with Bio's cordyceps culture, I found that it REDDENED PDA agar, but not sabaurauds.  It was not contaminated, just red.  Interesting
Nice clones, Anno!
