Relevance? Are you the arbiter of what is and what is not a Christian organization? Do its members' belief that is so not more telling than some random internet dude's opinion?

that's encyclopedia britannica's website. hardly some "random guy on the internet". be that as it may, regardless of whatever the klan perceives itself to be, it is not regarded as a christian group by a vast majority.

My personal stance: since the majority seem to consider al qaeda as muslims, I think KKK should be considered christian. It's only fair is it not?

"Al-Qaeda is a global broad-based militant Islamist terrorist organization founded by Osama bin Laden sometime between August 1988 and late 1989. It operates as a network comprising both a multinational, stateless army and a radical Sunni Muslim movement calling for global Jihad."

It is amazing that you keep missing the point over and over again. Stubbornness or blindness? Once more we shall try to clarify: the majority of people who are not members of said organization and/or the author of an encyclopedic article or a dude-named millzy are the ones who get to decide whether an organization is valid or what it is all about?

How does this work, exactly? Using your 'logic', the Roman Catholic Church, being the largest, is correct in claiming that all other Christian organizations are not 'real' Christians.

It is like calling war protesters not true Americans because they are in the minority.

fair enough. i'll concede on al qaeda. al qaeda seems to be motivated by solely by religious idealogy. the klan may have a religious slant to their rhetoric but their primary motivation is rampant hatred for anyone who isn't white. and that's why i wouldn't consider them to be a christian group.

Next month, my evangelical brother will be flying to the UK with the sole purpose of converting Muslims.

besides the valid points you make, is this why your always arguing against religion? you seem a bit hung up on the subject.

To the OP, this is a face of Christianity, but not the only one.

Being a Christian, I have seen firsthand, and actually experienced hateful expressions from  other Christians when my beliefs dont mesh 100% with theirs.
These types of people spread more disdain and anger towards the faith then Satanists could ever dream of.

I also have seen a trans-gender woman walk into my church , greeted with love and respect, without judgment or hateful expressions.
Its sad, but most Christians need to realize that our God hates the sin, but not the sinner.....and im not saying that being transgender is a sin

I think that religion is for those who dont want to/can't think for themselves. The way people ostracize and punish out of the box thinkers, seems to indicate this. However this does not mean that religion has been bad for society, for one it establishes morals in people that are assholes at heart (or at least some rules they have to follow), which is good for me.

Most if not all early civilizations operated by some set of religious dogma which has required a "government" to enforce these morals, this led to 99% of everything in modern society in one way or another. Now maybe society would still work if religion had never happened, I dont know.

People will believe anything depending on what environment they are raised in, the belief in question can seriously be anything IMO.

With all of that said, my childhood church was full of alot of great people, who would except anybody that came (you know to the extent of what would be clearly rude).

BTW IMO any empirical stance on the true nature of reality that comes without impiracal proof is just a belief.

i'm not a devotee of any tradition, but i think it's unfortunate that religion, especially christianity, gets a rap like this now. there is a rich intellectual undercurrent in religion, it's just hidden and fundamentalist assholes don't make it any easier to see. personally, while i could never commit to christianity, the philosophy and history of it is immensely interesting to me. in my younger days i didn't understand it, and i hated religion and religious people for a number of reasons. i've grown to respect it and see the good as well as the bad.

being religious doesn't mean you can't be an intellectual. quite the contrary. scripture is designed to convey a multi-layered message. on the surface you have the pedagogical; the morality tales and rules. beneath that you have the deeper stuff that tries to convey the mysteries of the soul and its relationship to the universe (and of course the ultimate reality that informs it). in my opinion, religion has always been an effective tool to systematically throw enormous amounts of information across populations in an effort to stimulate their intellectual growth over long periods of time. it's man's first attempt to take control of his own evolution. yes, it is misused, misinterpreted and perverted, especially now. but at its core it's beautiful stuff.

imho.

I would say that what has really been exposed is the face of self-perpetuating ignorance. This is a force which transcends Christianity.

Please point out where I said that burning a cross is a christian gesture? Although I would like to mention it is actually a ritual called cross lighting and the KKK weren't the first people to partake in such festive fun.

I'm not new to the lessons that can be found in the Bible and related books. There are Christians that are my intellectual superior, but the only application that intellect has on something as static as one volume of books is the meaning of that volume of books and how it applies to life. The answers are all in the book, even if the answers differ from interpretation, it still seems rather limiting and in that way it does the thinking for you.

Alot of Christains I've come across dont bother with the in depth thing, they just recite what they were told, and some even quote things that dont exist in the Bible and do things in the name of the Bible, things that only exist in local bigotry and have no mention, which leads me to the lazy thinking conclusion.

I think religion is a lifestyle, people don't understand and take it seriously. So when somebody along with a related disposition they blame it on the religion not the person itself.

oh, i hear you. and please don't mistake my reply using your quote as being directed at you. i read the rest of your post.

i don't know if the answers are all there, but the literature frames the questions in ways that make people who pay attention have a better understanding of what they are. and without that depth, all you really have are fables. regrettably that's kind of what you have a lot of now; you have various cults of personalities hooked on fables and false promises.
