im about to try casing a cake for the first time. I looked for coco coir and oystter shell and couldnt get either one. I picked up a bag of Miracle Grow Moisture Control mix which has a blend of sphagnum moss, perlite, and coco coir pith(fiber). Now i just found in the casing teks it says not to use fibers. Why coir and not fiber? Will my mix not work and what kinda problems am i looking at if i use it?

that miracle grow stuff has chemicals in it. like some wetting agent. not sure how that will effect anything, but the rest of the ingredients sound fine. coir can be found at Petsmart or probably most pest stores. can find it in a brown brick intended for reptile bedding (Bed-A-Beast?). perlite usually isnt recommended for casing but its not gonna hurt anything. might want to buffer with oyster shells (also available at any pet store intended for birds as some kinda food suppliment) or lime (NOT "hydrated" lime). and i have no idea what that "no fiber" is about.

>Why coir and not fiber? Cause there are 2 different pairs of shoes. You want to use coir.
