Im thinking about skipping the grain (?)

Im tired of pre soaking grain and working with jars. I have had contam problems and I dont want to have to keep opening and handling my grain spawn to multiply it. My idea is to just take composted cow shit and pc it in a big mycobag. 1 mayby two tiny holes from the syringe that I would imediatly seal up w/ super glue. The thing is nobody seems to talk about doing this. There is always that intermediate grain step but is it realy necessary and if so why? With the above plan I could do a very large amount of substrate cheeply and not have to expose it to the outside untill colonized and ready to fruit. Ok, so what am I missing here?

You could try it, but if I was betting, I'd bet on failure.
Either way, good luck.

Why do you think it might not work? Too much material to effectively steralize? If I could pressure cook it long enough, had good syringes and was carefull about sealing it I dont see why every single bag wouldnt end up healthy white. Ive been surprised before though. And assuming it went realy bad and I lost 8 out of 10 bags (dont know why it would) I could still get alot of fruit out of two large bags.

If you have filter-patch bags and you want to innoc more filter-patch bags with those filter-patch bags you could always take a decent amount of sterile water, shoot in into the bag with a sterile seringe (I use rubbing alcohol first and seal with the sticky part of a band-aid) and break apart the mycelium in the water (the trick is to get the water in one spot, not all over the substrate) and draw it back with a sterile syringe.

Good idea. Im still working on the smell issue. I could just put a fan on high and blow it out my kitchen window but cooking a big pot of shit might be suspicious to the neighbors when they smell it.

I once had a girlfriend who was born with out the ablity to smell. I made gastronomical events less confrontational.

Well I think if it were to work, you'd have to add something to the poo to make it more porus, say verm or straw.
I don't know man, just give it as shot.

Your shit needs to be pasturized... PC'ing it will destroy the benificial enzymes that keep contamination down and it will contaminate. This is why the grain step is required.
Good Luck.
