Meditating to remember things?
    #15445614 -

I have never thought about meditating but thought its worth a shot. Specifically, I want to meditate so that I can focus on remembering things from the past(like some L does) while sober. Suggestions?

learn how to breathe properly. Full deep breaths in from your belly all the up through your throat, nice quick pause (feels great) then a nice long slow exhale

yes, owls is right, proper breathing is powerful... breathe from the diaphragm, chest breathing, which most people do is inefficient among other things... diaphragm breathing stimulates the lymphatic system among many other positive benefits... as far a improving memory goes i can't say meditation in general... i did it for awhile and saw some benefits but when i switched to mindful meditation things started to happen for me... meditation is in the moment, it really didn't do much for me hours later, at least it seemed this way... mindfulness meditation seems to be with me throughout the day... i switched to mindfulness after someone from another forum posted an article on it, the article was pretty interesting so i looked into it further and discovered a bunch of articles that stated mindfulness meditation increased cognition in general... short term/working memory and long-term memory are components of cognition... here's a few links...

What is Cognition?

Mindfulness meditation improves cognition: evidence of brief mental training.

Cognition Improved By Mindfulness Meditation

about 11 months ago i asked my family doctor if he thought meditation would be helpful for me and he "if it will make you happy, then do it"... those were his exact fucking words, if it will make me happy then do it! like the benefits of meditation are all in ones head... that there's no actual change in the brain... my new doctors promote it! there's a huge difference between the old, primitive medical model and progressive, integrative medicine... meditation practice is thousands of years old, if it weren't effective it would have died off like blood letting...

good luck...
