do normal cacti ever suddenly go variegated? + zygocactus pics?
    #15332638 -

hello all , i grow cacti even though i dont know a lot about growing them , i have a small greenhouse where i keep some of them.
i noticed yesterday what i would call signs of variegation on some of them.
is this simply something that can occur to cacti when given humidity/green house conditions?
thoughts?

:thanx:

and also , here is "i think" , a zygocactus . it has a red flower , im told.  is this likely to be the one sold as "sunburst" ?
thanks again.

Cacti can spontaneously put out variegated growth and likewise variegated specimens can revert back to normal.

Your photos however show discoloration due likely to sap sucking insects of some sort of other environmental factor. I have weird discoloration on many Trichocereus that looks like that. It's not uncommon, but then again it's also not variegation.

Zygocactus is the old name. It's Schlumbergera aka. "Christmas cactus". I would need to see flowers and dig up a book in order to give you a clone ID.

My spontaneous yellow patches tend to heal eventually  (unless they're sunburn which the opuntia may be... or another infection since its localized to the lower half)

But they occur on my trichs randomly.  like stretch marks on otherwise healthy growth.
