Im sorry about the cactus image being sideways..

I picked up these three from Frank's Nursery thinking (hoping) [praying] they were little baby San Pedro's..are they?

i just love to get a hold of a San Pedro.

Some dude had a couple of them he showed me but he didnt want to spare a clipping..:(

They look like a Trichocereus species. The spines are longer than those on my san pedro though.

Nope. I thought it may be related to a peruvian and I tried it along with two other look alikes and stuck 'em in a blender (after removing thorns and the pretty fake yellow flower glued to the top), and drank it all down. SICK!!

Anyway, I felt some effects that I would attribute to being completely placebo - slight increase in energy, colors appering slightly brighter, etc. Four hours later I gave up my hopes of anything happening. Oh well.

Now, you have two there that appear about the same size as mine was. Mine was about 6 inches tall 2.5->3+ inches wide. You might give it a shot if your extremely bored and let us know! It didn't kill me nor make me sick in anyway so...

Trichocereus Pachanoii is the name which can make it easier for you? Just ask the shop owner for its latin name!!

I does not look to me as a SP at all! But excuse me if I am wrong....
Go to http://www.homepages.hetnet.nl/~larisa/sanpedro/sanpedro.htm and look at some pictures. Maybe you can see comparison between the ones you posted and are displayed at that url...

Trichocereus tephracanthus--the stem and branches are 2.25" diameter usually have eight ribs which are rounded and tuberculate below the areoles. Tubercales less pronounced on young specimens. The large areoles are shield shaped and with white felt-like fibers. The spines are about an inch long, numbering four to sever per areole, and oftern have brown tips. The central spine is normally longer and darker than the rest.

Looks like your cacti might be young T. tephracanthus. I have no idea about alkaloid content.

oh... i think club99 may be right! young cereus peruvianus are fatty with trichocereus like ribs... they may be just c. peruvian.
and for the guy in the post up there, i think a 6 inch tall section isn't enough for a dose... and you wasted your cactus. congrats.

Hey felixhigh,

Did you happen to read my post? I had two other six inch pieces of a different species that I ingested along with the above cactus, with hopes that something may be active. That would be 3 cacti at 6 inches a piece, bringing the grand total to, oh, 18inches? And, if I did waste a six inch, practically free and probably inactive cactus, who the hell cares? Why get smart? Why feel the compulsion to congragulate me on my wasteful cactus usage? I dropped some spines on the ground on the way to the dumpster. Are you going to congratulate me on being a litterbug as well?

Hell, now I'm getting smart, or stupid, or, whatever. Another boring night tonight....hmm, anything 'round here I can wastefully consume for kicks??? Hey my wife jusst got home, seeya.

Club99 is right, it is a Cereus Peruvianus. They are very common in nurseries. They are not active.

bluemoon -- yours *might* be a Stetsonia coryne.

Not sure about the first two...spines seem weird for C. peruvianus to me...

They're too young to be ID'd for sure in both cases.

i have a some torch's about that size, and i am almost 100% sure that isnt them, on mine, the thorns or way thinner, almost hairlike, and the ribs are less ummmm distinct

It does not look at a cereus peruvianus at all....

The pic below show the Peruvianus.. as you can see it is both monstrosity and the normal shape of it! Look at the normal shapped cereus p. and then take a look at the posted picture. Do you still think it is a cereus p?



There is a major difference in cereus and trichocereus!
