eckhart tolle vs terrence mckenna...
    #15093404 -

I doubt that im the only person whos thought this, after reading eckhart tolle's book a new earth and terrence mckennas food of the gods it seems like tolle's preaching the archaeic revival without the drugs. because he obviously cant make as much money if he added some crucial tools in there. I was curious if anybody had some input on this

His life changing experience didn't involve psychedelics, if that's what you mean.  He did admit to trying LSD once, I believe, but was not impressed by it.  Probably didn't take very much.

I also don't see McKenna's Archaic Revival idea and Tolle's philosophy of abiding in the present as being related, except in the vague sense of both being ideas for how the human race can live more contently and harmoniously.

My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

It is so much more fun & rewarding to awaken DMT states without the need to ingest substances that CAN have toxic effects on people. Thats my opinion on this subject. Thats why I would think Eckhart would win if there was a VS match.

Different things work for different people.
I think one could make a pretty good argument that it is superior to be able to reach certain states of consciousness without the use of drugs. It's definitely not the easiest method, but perhaps the most lasting and rewarding.

the most your ever going to attain through meditation is a silent mind. Defiantly not a bad thing. but it's not the same as tripping.

I don't understand  people who compare meditation and psychedelics. There not the same thing at all. Sure they are both useful tools but it's like comparing a hammer to a nail gun.

Through meditation you can induce a lucid dream/OBE (or w/e you want to call it) which only has the limits of your imagination. I think your view of meditation is limited. It is a tool that opens you up, allows you to experience in other states. Have you ever eaten mushrooms in a lucid dream?

That is his main philosophy is staying in the present. but "a new earth" implies that all the man made things in this world (including our ego) will be diminished and we will be left with a world built by those with a clean heart, higher state of concioussness, or what ever you like to call the being that resides inside of us.

Another big factor that added feul to the thought that these two have the same basic concept of changing the world was finding out that when you meditate, and you experience mystical states, it is in fact DMT that is being released.

I just said how you can do that. Just because you don't think it's possible doesn't mean it isn't.

Eckhart freely admits to having years long mental illness before his breakthrough....extreme depression and perhaps bipolar episodes. I enjoy his material, yet am suspicious of Eckhart himself. He has ridden the "only the Now exists" to incredible wealth and popularity. In one of his audible books when he is being asked questions by the audience, Eckhart actually sounds quite petty and goofy....There is nothing new in his material.....Eastern thought has explored and aspired for the Eternal NOW for thousands of years. Krishnamurti was adept in expressing the concept/non-concept in a series of lectures which were published and are classics. I don't know if I would trust Eckhart, and the statement that he wasn't impressed with lysergic product exposes another question mark for him.

the whole point, to me of psychedelic drugs is to be taken to the edge of excitement, fear, madness, tranquility and be able to make it through the experience in one piece. I haven't heard of any meditation experience that sounds anything near the psychedelic experience

two very different experiences imo

I once had a dream that Terence smoked me up on DMT, and it was an intense, hyper-dimensional experience.  I wasn't 100% lucid though (I'm a very rare lucid dreamer).
