Any fans of Terence McKenna out there?

Terence is one of the most important minds of our time, and I would love to share some of the wisdom with my fellow Shroomerites.

This forum has blessed me for the past 8 years, and I will always have a special place for all of this.

Now Who here is on some McKenna, and who isnt?

I got really into McKenna last year but have since found other people that seem to be more educated and less...enthusiastic about the chemical side of spiritual experiences.  I took his advice of taking a "heroic" dose of mushrooms in a completely dark room, by myself, and had a less than meaningful experience.  While waiting for the aliens to come get me I still felt like myself, still was looking through my ego, I was just really fucked up lol.  I think he's a bit overzealous in prescribing to everyone that we should take as many drugs as possible and just see what happens, but I'm also extremely grateful that he has done so and is articulate enough to relate back to the rest of us what his explorations of the mind have revealed.

I think he was an extremely creative kook. I wish he had taken the time to write a comic book.

Terence McKenna was a genius. Despite some of his far-fetched theories he was still incredibly intelligent. His pioneering first-hand research into dimethyltryptamine is what I most admire about him. I can honestly say that McKenna changed my life in a very positive way.

In response to BOOZERGUY I say if you would sum him up as someone who suggests to anyone and everyone to take as many drugs as you can, now I see why your 5 gram trip was mundane, i suggest you go back and mayb listen to more of his material you are definitely missing a huge chunk of knowledge that can be gained from it, The Psychedlic Salon has plenty of mp3s if you want to check some of his stuff out.

Terence is the one who steered me back from religious experimentations and made me realize that the catalyst to this very search was drugs. Hence, centering me back on where the game is played.

Yea I definitely hear ya on that one, McKenna's work that I looked into was just recordings of lectures put on youtube with hella trippy visuals lol, it served as a stepping stone for me and I didn't dig much deeper into his work, but instead heard what he said and investigated for myself from there.  He definitely was about more than just DRUGS DRUGS DRUGS but he certainly was big on that side of things...then again I was searching for his videos on drugs so that probly has more to do with my perception of him than anything.

Anyway thanks for the refresh on McKenna (to everyone on this post), I'll have to look deeper into his work

I love Terence McKenna!! I've been listening to TM audio lectures and interviews since 2007 in any capacity possible. I've probably heard most of his material but I always get something new when I re-listen to things a second or third time. (Some things I've probably heard dozens of times!) He was a pioneer, that's for sure, him AND his brother Dennis!!! Long Live The Brothers McKenna!!!!

I disagree, I just think some peoples' egos will try to fight it. Heroic doses work perfectly for me. I think he was a wise person, and I do not think it was through rigorous learning or by choice, but I believe he learnt a lot from psychedelics and felt the need to share what he learnt, as many of us do. He's done some great work for the psychedelic movement and while I don't know if he ever realised it himself, I think his work has helped to push us in the right direction - a move towards the very archaic revival he discusses.

I think the people who disagree with him simply haven't paid enough attention to some of the things he says. Some people claim he is crazy because some of his ideas may or may not be wrong - but he never claims everything to be fact, in fact he himself said that he's just spouting opinions and it could all mean nothing - he just has a firm belief in what he's teaching.

I found Food of the Gods an interesting read I particularly liked the quote: as people have had to get used to the idea we evolved from apes, now they have get used to the fact those apes were stoned apes!

I found it a good inspiration for my artwork and made a lamp in honor of the theory, one which Bill Hicks also uses in a much more comedic way

I just started listening to some of his stuff and I've really enjoyed it.  I love the whole operating system concept, that really rung true for me.

Above and beyond anything he was a master of language, written or spoken, planned or off the cuff. What an amazing mind.

He changed my whole view on psychs, I rediscovered them after 5 or 6 years without. Bless McKenna, hope he's surfing the astral waves and having fun up there!!
