getting yopo (cebil) to germinate is like trying to get blood out of a stone.
tried 5 times now, and they all just end up rotten. ive used damping off anti-fungal, sterile paper, just dirt in a pot. im considering blood next from mushnik's!

any ideas?:shrug::facepalm3::ganja::rockets:

The seeds might not be viable?? I have also read that they need a minimum temperature of 22c.

That's all I can think of. Everything else you seem to be doing right.

Try soaking them like beans, then sowing in dry soil and only spraying the surface til it's moist, or even sow in peat instead of soil, just don't keep it drenched.

I challenge you to challenge yourself more! When you feel complacent and ready to hang it up, challenge yourself to get over it! If you fail, don't look at it as you didn't succeed, look at it as you would a rock face you're trying to climb. Stand back, wayyyy back, and look at it and plot another path. If you can't find one, shuffle down the way a little, a little change of scenery or a view from a different angle may give you the insight you need.

A. colubrina is extremely easy to germinate in my experience, but I've only used really fresh seeds. I've heard that fungal issues are a lot more common as the age of the seeds increases.

50%/50% coir/washed sharp sand (non-pasteurized) as per kadakuda's recommendation worked well for me. I soaked the seeds in RO water for 12-18 hours before sowing flat on the side under a little of the mix, and I got 100% germination in 1-5 days with medium light.

Maybe you're keeping them too wet? They don't mind being a little on the dry side in that mix anyway. No humidity dome here, but ambient room humidity is 50%-65%. I kept them on the dry side and as a result misted them every 2-3 days.

Chances are theyre non-viable seeds, most yopo seeds sold are.
When I got 8 seeds from a grower I simply stuck them in moist (not wet) sand after rinsing them off and I placed it in a warm room. Two days later 4 sprouted, three more sprouted in the week that followed.
I was told never to soak them because if they swell too much it harms them, but really if you cant get any sprouts theyre bad seed.. even if your planting them wrong.

Irie,
I have done it by clipping a little edge off the shell with nail clipper then soaking for 12hrs when they swell out.
I kept them the same as my hostilis, slightly on the dry side.
I'll be popping mine later this week..
(BTW, the khat seeds I would do on tissue paper!)
Respect,
Z

Irie,
Yeah running around in little t-shirts in 10+ degrees BELOW what is a reasonable temperature is not my idea of fun!!:snow:
I may visit again in maybe 10yrs!!
I was surprised to see a number of what I would consider, tropical plants, doing well!!
Saw Yuccas growing in SW8 as roadside plantings...close by the Oval, also Bananas in Holland Park!
But hey not me!
