Plain peat based compost and perlite (I think) There is a small chance I used compost for acid loving plants - which I use for my salvia plants, this is also peat based. I am not sure which bag I used and they look the same.

Make sure you innoculate the soil with the proper mycorrhizial critters, or the plants will die very quickly. These microbes are essential for various mimosoid plants to get nutrients into their roots. Your best bet is to dig up a little soil from around the roots of some other mimosoid plant in your area and to mix this into your potting soil.

Thanks Murple  :smile: I did not realised they required microbes, I have heard of plants requiring nitrogen fixing bacteria, but I don't really know much about it.

Do you know of any common (UK) plants, which are mimosoid, if not I will ask at the local nursery. I have done a brief search, but no luck so far.

How long do you think they will last without the microbes? 

If this plant was really clever it would incubate the microbes within the seeds and I wouldn't need to worry about it :shocked:.

I had about 10 of these plants growing before. I just found the seed sin this weird pod thing... What are the plants used for? I remember when I grew them, they all died... Guess I needed those little microbes lol.

Black beans from these trees are toasted, pulverized and mixed with ashes or calcined shells to make psychedelic snuff called yopo by Indians in Orinoco basin in Colombia, Venezuela and possibly in southern part of Brasilian Amazon. Yopo is blown into the nostrils through bamboo tubes or snuffed by birdbone tubes. The trees grow in open plain areas, and leaves, bark and seeds contain DMT, 5-MeO-DMT and related compounds (Schultes 1976,1977; Pachter et al. 1959).

felixhigh, no I have not tried to consume the seeds. I am only currently interested in growing these plants. I would be interested to here about anyone who has though.

Do you have a small fan in there? It looks like it needs some stimuli to toughen up his lower stalk so he can support himself better, he may start keeling farther and farther over, especially in that intense humidty, and become bent and rot and die. Get a fan going in there and the blowing will make the stem firm.

Experience of growing???

I used peat-based compost with added perlite
Fed once with feed for acid loving plants 50 % recommended consideration
Kept in a humidity tent.
Filtered sunlight (same a salvia).

I think your plant there is kinda struggling.

First, give it some support. Second, look into your growing conditions, because it should be exhibiting much more vigorous growth by now. Maybe it needs more light, or it doesnt have adequate nitrogen-fixing soil bacteria. I havent grown this species, but I've grown enough mimosoids to know that looks like it needs some help.

Their is no nitrogen-fixing soil bacteria - It has been neglected - It will have some soon but until then it will continue to struggle, however it is doing better than expected considering.

Get some vetch, pea, or bean seeds from a commercial seed source or garden shop. Plant them in the pot with the wilca plant. Let it germinate and grow a few leaves, then snip it off at the soil line. This innoculates the soil quite nicely, without having to buy special innoculants or go digging around trees hoping to get the right bugs.

Tthat sounds like a good idea, I will give it a go. I was going to try and find a field that had been growing peas but this sounds like an easer option.

Nice!! I've got some just sprouted acacia dealbata... Hey, one strange thing: I've got some 4 months old acaia rethinodes, and, as seedling, they had started to grow those typical accaia leaves, and now it seem they are just growing stem, quite bushy, but no new leaves.. they are very healthy though... perhaps it d^pends on the growing season?? or the age of the plants? those where the first acacia plants I started , so perhaps its normal but I don't know.. anyone?

Unfortunately the picture of the seeds is from another web site and not the seeds I have. I only received a few and I have planted all of them. The seeds I planted were identical to those in the picture.
