go to your local classifieds and find a laptop with xp pro sold by an IT employee of a reputable company or university/college

i bought mine about 2 yrs ago with full blown xp pro (not xp on top of vista or 7 but straight up xp) for around the $200's and i've had zero issues

Alienware is a troll subsidiary of a respectable company.

They make stuff for "PC gamers", but most actual gamers don't take them seriously.

They sell "gaming laptops". As if such a concept wasn't illogical enough...you don't even game?

Oh i do ocasionally, like i wanted to get the new diablo 3 game when it comes out. Was a big fan of diablo 2.. plus i love stradegy games like age of empires and age of mythology
